Title: Wojo and Marquette moving forward...
Post by: Mr. Sand-Knit on March 04, 2017, 04:37:51 PM
Today was a monumental win for the Wojo tenure at MU.  Any new coaching regime has a honeymoon period in recruiting.  They can sell the program history, playing time, and their vision of winning.  However, 3-4 years into the tenure recruiting comes to a cross roads.  The roster is now full so playing time becomes a harder sell.  A coach now needs to show a recruit that his programs trajectory is on the right path and is good enough to go get an even better class of player or to even allow him to continue to get good players as it becomes harder without the playing time advantage.  However, if by year 3-4 a coach isnt winning it becomes that much harder. A recruit looks at no tourneys and a young roster and might even question if that coach might not be there in 5 more years (senior yr of hs n 4 college).  The threat becomes it becomes even harderto recruit n rebuild momentum n for recruits to belive in your vision.
I think wojo is a really really good recruiter and todays win and the pending ncaa bid will only greatly legitimize Wojo and his vision.  I think he is going to be an absolute force on the recruiting scene this summer, and might just really get the ball rolling.
Hopefully starting with Greg Elliot.
Good times ahead MU fans, good times ahead!!

Also, the style that Wojo is playing right now is attractive to recruits.  Spread the floor, shoot the ball, drive the lane.  That's what recruits see when they watch the NBA.

Hopefully Elliott is having a nice visit...

Totally agree... Meant to add that the style they play is extremely attarractive to recruits but forgot

Vinnie

The style of offense has improved as season has moved forward. No doubt that is appealing to recruits and fans. Last two games were very enjoyable to watch.

Success breeds success. It's been a long, painful road back to this point, but kudos to Wojo and all thelse players and coaches.

Our best players will be back next year - now it's time to balance the rosters and build a contender.

But first, March Madness.

Hey, I agree with sandknit on something. Winning makes things weird.

The "intelligent Warriors" (anybody who thinks the teams don't relate to Warriors should hear that sound bite) are dancing. Let's make some noise.

Im still not ready to be sold on wojo. But I have loved his coaching since the start of the "gauntlet" (first butler game) compared to the rest of his tenure here.

Wisconsin going into a tailspin is also a positive. The two badger fans in my office think they should dump Gard. It is pretty easy to go from being loved to hated in the coaching business.

If we lose today there's a similar thread asking for Wojo's head, which would have been over reactionary. This feels just as over reactionary. Why not just let them things play out? Why does a definitive declaration have to be made??
