Title: Downtown Tomorrow Warning
Post by: Warrior1 on March 03, 2017, 03:46:28 PM
Just a heads up for those heading down to the game... tomorrow is Milwaukee's largest St. Patty's day event. The Shamrock Shuffle. Ticket sales of over 9,000 plus all of those who tag along. 3rd Street is participating in the bar crawl, as is Water Street, Brady and North.

The celebration, a long with a sold out Bradley Center should make for an absolute mess (and party) around the stadium. Keep that in mind as you make, eating drinking and parking plans! This also may have a big impact on the student section tomorrow...

Milwaukee's best bagpiper no longer lives there so it's not worth participating in those festivities

Also have the Auto Show and Shen Yung is at the Milwaukee Theater at 2.  Fortunately, the Admirals don't play until 6.  Bucks also play tomorrow night.  Busy day in Downtown MKE.

Bagpipes aren't Irish, they're Scottish.

Actually the original bagpipe is Eastern European. The highland bagpipes are Scottish the uillean bagpipes are Irish (I play play both) but regardless you should know there's loads of highland pipers around on st Patrick's day unless you've never been to a parade before

My understanding is that only highland style bagpipes can be played while carried which is how I suppose they came to be the staple of of St Patrick's Day parades rather than uillean bagpipes.  What the heck, the Scots are part of the seven nations, laddie.

I've heard that uillean pipers are rare, do you play in any Irish music bands in Chicago?

While we're at it, let's just throw Galician bagpipes in there, too!

This was the case a few years ago. A whole lot of sloppy.

The Portuguese and some of the random ones from Eastern Europe can be carried but are fairly hard to march with.

Yeah extremely rare even in Ireland. I had to teach myself the uillean pipes for the most part. I've occasionally taken part in some trad sessions at galway arms but no official bands. I'd play in a pipe band but I'm busy with hurling.

Either way we probably sold more tickets for this game than Depaul did for every game in 2017.

Here's what I don't understand: why is everyone celebrating St. Paddy's day a full two weeks before the actual event? Did the snakes come out of hibernation early this year?

Big talk from someone hiding behind a computer.  Try saying that in a crowd on the 17th.

IT confused me like hell. MY girlfriend asked if we could meet up for st patty's. I said sure, then I got nervous as hell with this post since I live 300 miles away.

Not sure why the city of Milwaukee is but I know a few suburbs around Chicago do it so that they aren't competing with the actual city for the entertainment dollar. The irony is that nobody seems to actually be celebrating the actual st Patrick's day weekend.

Of course, they'll all be out celebrating the start of the tournament.

It starts with a race with about 10,000 registered runners that benefits Special Olympics. Somehow, this morphed into a giant pub crawl for St. Patty's. So, the reason it is early is the race was scheduled so as not to conflict with people's SPD plans. So, instead of the race being primary, a giant party has broken out...kinda like a 2 for 1 shot situation at the end of the first half.

At the end of the game, watch out for runners in the river.
