Though unlikely, is this the year a 16 will upset a 1 seed?

No.
No, but someday it'll happen!
Texas Southern, represent!

I was living in Columbia SC when the gamecocks beat Kentucky at the end of the season to seal the regular season SEC championship.
Coach Eddie Fogler "maybe we are that good"
2 seed playing Coppin State .... first 2 to lose and they lost handily.
It can happen. Look for an overrated and overconfident coach.

It will most likely happen when a soft 1 plays a legit 16 that's a double champion (thus a viable team). If you see chalk in the conference tournaments, who knows? Has to happen some time.
If Gonzaga gets a 1 seed...
Not until Georgetown gets a #1 seed.

But if the team is a double champion, I think they would be at least a 15 seed; maybe a 14.

The problem is that 16 seeds are often just crappy teams that happen to win their crappy conference tournament. Very rarely are they they type of team that is going to get hot and hit a bunch of shots to win the game.
Yeah it is going to happen I guess...

I remember a few years ago that Southern should have beaten Gonzaga, but blew it at the end.
