Andrei and I will be updating this daily, with all the relevant games and how they impact MU's tournament chances.
So in other words - enjoy your Friday night. Nothing to see here. We'll catch up again on Saturday.

Not so fast. I invited Phil for a drink in Cleveland once, but he never took the offer.
As for the viewing guide, let us know if we miss anything. We weren't even going to post anything tonight, but Ryan still was able to scrape from the scrap. Tomorrow should be a doozy and I'm sure I'll gloss over a bunch.

First of all, I didn't know the drink offer was revoked. Second of all, part of my charm is keeping people from meeting me so that I seem way cooler/smarter/interesting on the internet than I am in real life.

Bump. Andrei updated for tomorrow's games.
If you were curious, we went 0-4 on the games I projected tonight (assuming Oregon State doesn't come back from down 20). Fortunately, they were three low impact games and one bubble team who was heavily favored. Not too much of a loss. In fact, the win is going to drop Cal's RPI by at least 5 points.
https://painttouches.com/2017/02/24/tbw-viewing-guide-who-to-root-for-tonight/
Updated with Sunday's games!
We went 5-5 on the bubble today. Could have been bigger but MTSU and Houston both escaped with victories in the last seconds. Monmouth handled Iona but is a stretch at best for a bid. Illinois beat a terrible Nebraska squad and is somehow still considered alive. The Vadgers let us down at Michigan State, they are likely locked in now.

Updated with today's games. Not much on the docket tonight.
2-1 on the bubble tonight. We got a 2 spot RPI boost because of Western Carolina and Howard winning. UT Arlington rolled Troy but they are a fringe bubble team at best. Shouldn't hurt us too much.
Andrei is doing the update tomorrow. Lots of bubbly goodness.

Updated for today's contests. Some low risk, high reward games for Marquette. Providence and Hall play a pair of easy opponents. Wins don't really help their resume but losses could be devastating. There is also a surprisingly significant Mountain West matchup.
Not a bad day for us. We went 5-3 on the important games. Indiana and Akron have bullets in them. Fresno is a bona fide top 100 win. And Vanderbilt is likely out of chances to pass us. Georgetown almost gifted us a win against Seton Hall but they blew it.
Tomorrow is the biggest bubble day since last Saturday. Article should be up in the morning.

Our RPI did drop 3 slots last night. Hopefully can be more than made up today with a W and some more help from our bubble brethren.

Updated for tonight's games. Lots of games with implications for Marquette's RPI. Losses by Houston and Cal would kill any chance of them getting selected over Marquette.
3-3 in our selected games tonight. Biggest results are the Houston and Cal games. Houston officially has a bullet in their at large chances. I don't think there is any situation where Cal can pass Marquette after getting smoked by 30 to an average Utah team.

larry k's team is a little better than average. depending on how they get seeded, i'd watch their match-up(s) with a little caution toward moving onto the next opponent. as for cal, they were doing better when they still had the playdough rooms and puppy dog therapy. judging by their 30 point loss however, they must have gotten rid of something :D

Utah is not making the NCAA tournament, so they won't be getting seeded, unless you're referring to the P12 tournament.

0-4? Monmouth and Wichita State both won, wouldn't that make for 2-2 in hopes of getting potential at large teams into automatic bids?

13-14 on Saturday. Lots of our former opponents won for a good boost. TCU, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and UT-Arlington are all done. Cal and Illinois have no chance of passing us. Lots of chalk in the conference tourneys.
Best of all, a Marquette victory. Get them dancing shoes ready. We'll keep this updated though until our name is called a week from now.

Correct, kind of...I was referring to PAC-12 tourney, but careful, if they win a game of so in conference tourney, they ARE in the dance. Presently, 20-10/11-7 in a sneaky tough conference. Larry k is an under the radar good coach

1-6 versus RPI top 50. Only win @ home vs USC. 3-9 versus RPI top 100. Other wins at home versus stanford and Cal. Lost to Oregon State. RPI in mid 70s. Only two teams of note they played in non con were Butler and X, and they lost both those games.
If they went bonkers in the P12 tournament and somehow beat a couple of Oregon, UCLA and Arizona maybe they could sneak in the last 4, but I doubt they'll do enough. The P12 is not good after the top 3.

Sneaky good conference? They have been consistently ranked as the weakest of the Power 6 conferences this season.

Updated with today's games. Not too much action. Wisconsin and Michigan could help us with a slight RPI boost. Monmouth playing to prevent a bid thief. MVC Championship will determine if it is a 1 or 2 bid league.
I'm having a problem rooting for the Rodents. One unexpected thing is that I am watching it on the B10 network, which I'm not supposed to get.
How much of a bump would a Wisky win give our RPI? I really don't want to root for them unless the effect is significant.
The announcers showed the UW infographic during our game last year. They have exactly 0 signature wins. Their best wins are:
-vs Maryland
-vs Syracuse
-vs Michigan
-@ Us
If this team gets a 7 seed sans a run through their conference tournament, it's on reputation alone. 22+ wins is 22+ wins, but there is nothing to write home about there.
As Rosanna Rosannadanna would say, never mind. Watching the game, I was treated to the sight of Richard Pitino. Christ! The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Go, Badgers.
I loved the 7.5 line so much I bet on the Gophers for the first time all year. Of course that is all Wisco needed to break out of their slump.

Think of it as a win-win. Either we get to see Bucky lose or get our RPI boosted.

Updated with today's game. Chance to put some bid stealers to bed. Howard and IUPUI in action with a chance to bolster MU's RPI.
3-1 so far tonight. IUPUI got smoked, Gonzaga made the championship, no bid stealer from the CAA, and Howard managed a win. If St. Mary's can get past BYU than the WCC will be safe from a bid-stealer.

Updated. ACC tournament gets started today, so a couple of bubble teams in action. Also, a former MU opponent is their conference final with a chance for an auto-bid.
A couple others with marginal interest...
Nebraska-Omaha v South Dakota State (8:00, ESPN2)
Marginally helps our RPI more to cheer for UNO, and you can say "I always knew they'd be this good after seeing them beat Marquette at the BC!"
Milwaukee v Northern Kentucky (6:00, ESPN)
UW-M helps our RPI marginally, but that's more than the zero-impact NKU. And they're local, so let's get another Wisconsin-based team in the Dance. Maybe they pull off a 16/1 upset and we can get to 40-0 against them in the second round ;D
Wouldn't a UWM win also help Marquette in that they would be guaranteed to be in the play-in game, so then they would be forced to put 2 (16) seeds in Dayton and only have room for 2 at large bids, moving Marquette even farther up the bubble?
I think each year is two 16 seed games and two at-large bubble games in the Play-in games. I don't think it would have an effect.

I'm not following the logic here. Nevertheless, Cheebs is right... there will be 8 teams (4 games) in Dayton next week. Two 16's will emerge to play a #1, and the other two will emerge (most likely) with an 11 or 12 seed.

Simply, no. Milwaukee winning would help our RPI more than Northern Kentucky winning, but it's a fairly marginal difference (Milwaukee's resume makes up 0.05% of our RPI while NKU has no impact at all) but if you're looking for a reason to cheer, there you go ;)
Other games that fit the "marginal difference" include...
- Nebraska-Omaha over South Dakota State
- Wake Forest over Boston College (I'm still cheering for BC)
- Florida A&M over South Carolina State
- Jackson State over Southern
- Prairie View A&M over Grambling
- Southern Utah over Montana State
Bear in mind, when I say marginal, it's minimal at best. I think the biggest difference here is 0.05% of our RPI, and the smallest if the 0.01% difference between PVAMU and Grambling.
I'm rooting for the Lady Warriors tonight.

UWM winning would have no effect on Marquette. The breakdown is always four conference champions and 4 at large.

Well...it has an affect on our RPI, though minimally because Milwaukee played DePaul (opponent's opponents).
Update Bump. There's a plethora of intriguing matchups today. For my money, Cuse v Miami and Georgetown v Johnnies are the most important. Cuse gets real close to lock status with a good win away from home. Hoyas drop out of the RPI top-100 with a loss.

Andri updated for Friday's games. Still tons of action. This time of year is christmas for basketball fans.
One small correction. Howard plays the Norfolk State fighting Kyle O'Quinns. They beat Morgan State yesterday.
All that talk about Milwaukee getting in with 23 losses, Howard is 2 wins away from doing just that. They played Norfolk State tough two weeks ago on the road (had a second half lead before falling by 8), and in the final would either face a Maryland-Eastern Shore team that they swept or (more likely) a NC-Central team that they had a late lead on before falling by 7.
Of course, now that I've given them a chance, they'll probably get drubbed by NSU today ;D
Michigan might've just been robbed. Scored to tie the game with Purdue at 66 with 4 seconds to play, then stole the inbound clean but the refs blew whistles to check the clock. Would've been an uncontested layup. Now headed to overtime.
Meanwhile, SMU puked up a massive lead against East Carolina, was tied with under a minute to play at 77, but escaped thanks to Semi Ojeleye icing it at the line. Dayton lost to Davidson, meaning there will almost certainly be a potential bid thief in the A-10 final as Davidson has advanced to play the URI/St. Bonaventure winner.
Middle Tennessee is up big in the second half, they should be okay (thought I thought SMU was safe too).

I like VCU's draw for the A10 tournament, especially if the Bonnies lose today. I think they still have a really good shot to win the A10 and prevent a bid thief.

The important games have gone in our favor today. URI, VCU, SMU, Cincy, Kentucky, and Nevada killed potential bid thieves. Just need Middle Tennessee to beat Marshall.
Wisconsin and Michigan helped our RPI, granted Penn and Albany didn't play along, but that's okay. Good day.

Frankly, the whole week has really gone MU's way. Other than Vandy, no real runs from the other bubble teams and almost no bid thieves.
