Students. I really feel for you. Real chance you're the first class since class of 2001 (and only the second since the class of 1992) not to see MU play in the tourney at least once. Tough to go to a "basketball school" and never see your team dance. I hope the alumni office gives you a few years respite before they start calling for cash.
Class of 88. No tourney bids. Dukiet. Far worse then.
Ok, so we have to go back 30 years to find a worse situation. That's not encouraging.

Ditto....and I have no regrets from my college experience...and my life even turned out okay. would have been a lot more fun if we had a decent program back then, but, meh...I was more upset that they ended the block party...
At least we had jiggles fest.

Damn I enjoyed that. Nothing like drinking on a warm spring day next to the lake with a bunch of busted up clay pigeons all around.
For those of us from the class of 88, the first one was at the domes.

If Marquette makes the tourney its a bit of a downer that MU is on spring break during the first two rounds of the tourney and the students wouldn't get to experience the excitement on campus unless MU advanced far.

If we miss the NIT they're the first class since Marquette became a basketball school to go 4 years without seeing their team in postseason play... I think that's even worse

Would be interested to see how many schools from the big 6 conferences can say that over the last 4 years.

Is the question how many other big six schools have gone through a four year stretch with no postseason? Gone through their first four year stretch of no postseason since they first made one? or what?

How many schools from the big 6 conferences haven't made the NCAA or NIT from 2013-2016 and are at risk of missing both again this year. I'd be curious to see what the number is.
No bids since 2013 or earlier:
ACC
Wake Forest
Florida State
BC
Virginia Tech
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Big 12
TCU
Big East
Marquette
DePaul
Big Ten
Illinois
Minnesota
Penn State
Rutgers
Northwestern (never)
PAC 12
Washington
Wash St
SEC
Missouri
South Carolina
Alabama
Mississippi St
Auburn
That's 22 out of 80-ish, or about 1/5. I didn't look at NIT bids, because they're NIT bids.
Of those 22, only 3 are in really good shape to break their streaks (crossed out) and several others (MU, Clemson, Minnesota, VT, GT, WF) are on the bubble.

I definitely agree with you that its NCAA or bust, but here are the teams that did make the NIT recently.
Illinois, Minnesota, Mizzou, Clemson, Alabama, VA Tech, GA Tech, and Washington all made the NIT since 2013. Add in FSU and South Carolina who have both made the NIT recently and Northwestern since those are NCAA locks and you're left with 11 teams at-risk of not making the NCAA or NIT from 2013-107.

That is the way it was in at least 2 of my 4 years at Marquette (2007-2011). It gives students a chance to actually travel and go to the games for their Spring Break trip. I spent my senior year Spring Break in Cleveland in 2011, and it was awesome.
Guys, Marquette is not going I miss the NIT unless they lose out.

I'm not. It sucks. I want to be in the tournament so badly, and it hurts to watch Wisconsin crush it in March every year while we sit at home.
But here's the thing, I'm not giving up hope on this season. We have winnable games (3 at home) left and after that the BET could give us one or two more. The bubble is soft. Until our name doesn't flash on Selection Sunday or it becomes obvious that we're cooked (losing 3 of the last 4) I'm going to hold onto hope.
Ps...what is up with Illinois basketball? For having a huge recruiting hotbed in Chicago the state of Illinois hasn't managed a major conference tourney team in years!

I'm not sure about that. 8-10 we should get in, but 7-11 we might get left out. Remember how much chaos there has been in Championship Weeks in the past. Those low and mid major conferences gobble up NIT bids like crazy. You could see 10-15 bids go to those schools. Get pushed far enough down (which losing 9 of our last 11 including BET would do) and I'm guessing we are on the outside. I don't expect that to happen, but in some ways, the NIT field can be harder to get into than the NCAA field.
On a Marquette basketball board no doubt.
I'm sure they are discussing the hell out of the wildcats over at NUscoop.
Not much to talk about with MUBB?
We have heard recently:
Wojo sux, Luke sux, HC sux, future sux, young Hauser isn't coming him, commits are bad, Wojo is going to duke, if mu were only Wisconsin, we are slu, we are DePaul, we aspire to be St. John's, we are not worthy of the tournament, we won't make nit, we should never accept not bid, if we go to the nit I won't renew my season tickets, etc. come on--plenty of in depth thought provoking non sense from Wisky trolls on here. :)

Not for at large teams. Don't think I've ever seen an at large NCAA team who wouldn't have made the NIT field.
Anyone here really believe that if we're the "last one out" of the big tournament we won't get an NIT bid? Won't happen. Doesn't happen.

If you're teetering on the bubble, you're probably safely in the NIT. But if you know you are out of the NCAAs and hoping for a NIT berth, it can be tough to get in. Look at us in 2014 as a prime example.

With our RPI, I think most of us knew we were out last year, just look at the number of conversations we had about Vegas. In 2014, I think most of us expected the NIT berth and were surprised when it didn't come.

I heard three stories. One was the one you state above, one was that we refused to play a road game, one was that we simply were left out. Looking at our RPI that year and the other at-large teams, I feel the third one is a perfectly likely explanation, though it wouldn't make us feel as good about our program that we weren't worthy of the NIT.

False. Only the fans (some who are long time STHs) who live in a fantasy world jumped off the wagon screaming that the wheels are falling off.
Most everyone else was realistic that MU was a slightly above average squad that was relatively safe for a berth given the state of available options.

Some days not. After trying a new exercise and my hip hurts for 3 days. When I get zero sleep at work. When I make a pop culture reference and then realize it occurred before my co-worker was born.
