5-4. Historic wins, painful losses.
What went well: Shooting. Contributions from lots of players. The emergence of Markus. Sam not being overwhelmed. KR starting to be what many hoped he would be.
What went poorly: Defense. HC's shooting slump. JjJ, despite being a stat sheet filler, still making boneheaded gaffes.
IMO, the team is better than I thought it would be. I thought rebounding would be a constant Achilles heel, and it has only been a problem a couple of games. I did not think Sam would be able to compete as a 'stretch' 4 as well as he has. Very fundamentally sound.
Good shooting has overcome poor defense more often than I expected.
Going forward: Can't afford letdowns, the margin for error is too small. Would love to see the team find a way to defend teams that attack the basket. I will keep my fingers crossed that HC finds his shooting touch. Would like Duane to be consistent. Schedule is in our favor, need to take advantage.
@ Depaul, SJU (2x), Xavier (2X), Creighton at home, Butler at home, @ Providence, @ G-town. Right there for the taking.
Overall grade: B
Good summary.
I would add in as a positive that Wojo seems to be improving as a game coach, and has effectively balanced a fairly deep and skills roster, playing the hot hand.
I'd give a B+ if only because I'm happily surprised.
For the remaining schedule, swap out DePaul at home for one on the road at Georgetown.
Good point, Martin. I forgot to mention Wojo's growth as a coach. To anybody who watches objectively, it is clear that he is getting better. Still has a ways to go, but definitely better.
Wojo is also getting testy after losses, which I love to see. He knows there is opportunity THIS year and he wants to capitalize on it.
Timeout huddles still a major issue
But tower's OP is reasonable
Wow. thanks. ::)
