respect the process, focus on the game, not the name on the front of the jersey
Win the day.
I think for the next three, we're actually set up pretty well for them not to be traps. It's not like the team will be "looking ahead" to St. John's or DePaul when Providence comes to town, and I also think it's easy to keep focus on your opponent on the road. Not that we can't lose, but I really like how this stretch of the schedule plays out.
It will be interesting to see how Wojo and the team handle success. One more step in the process.
Trust the process
Exactly. There is a difference between being an underdog and having a chip on the shoulder/something to prove, compared to when you are the favored team. Obviously the team has done well in games they are favored in, but we have yet to see how they respond after times of tremendous success. I think they will, things are starting to look like they have clicked (somewhat)
I'm hoping since Katin is the only one to experience the tournament, that we don't have any lapses in focus. I think that's a nice chip to have on our shoulder to play with an edge the rest of the way.

Agreed. I think the team is hungry and has learned from recent collapses so I expect to see a foot-on-the-throat mentality for this upcoming stretch
However, these are 17-23 year olds. There will inevitably be hiccups.
I would really love to see MU put it to the Friars. I was a little bummed that they were beaten by SJU the other night. I was thinking about a trap ahead. Warrior need to continue to cultivate focus, toughness, and leadership.... Go out put your boot on their throats and keep it there..... Ring out Ahoya!

Yup, the great thing about this team is the depth 1-9. Even if three or four guys have an off night and come out flat there are 5 more guys that can get hot and carry this team. Testament to the coaching staff as to how well everyone has accepted their current role (post cohen and carter transfer) and a guy like Duane Wilson can get hot and win us a game against Nova.
When we were down 15 with 7 mins left (or whatever it was), was anybody here thinking, "Wow, playing the No. 1 team, it's obvious that we have great focus"?
Whatever "focus" is ... it seems like pretty meaningless coach-speak most of the time. It would be hard to argue we were especially focused for the first 75-80% of that game (or, for that matter, that we lacked focus).
We had a great rally. We made shots and had some great possessions; Nova missed shots and had some poor possessions. Those ingredients are almost always necessary for such a big comeback. I'm not sure if focus had anything to do with anything.
I think Marquette's players and coaches are preparing as if they want to win every game, and I believe they will play well Saturday and the two games after that against BE dregs. They are conference games. Wojo only has to go back a couple of weeks to say, "Nova is over. This is what happens when we don't play our best."
All that said, if we take care of business in the week from 1/28 to 2/4, it would be difficult for us to not go dancing.
As Capt. Jean-Luc Picard used to say, "Make it so!"
I don't think the loss by Prov to St J makes them any more dangerous for this game. When good teams like Nova or Butler get beat when they shouldn't have, you don't want to be the next team they face. But a young team like Prov its more likely to weaken their confidence and even create a little tension. The key to this game is containing the "we beat #1 living in the past" on our team. Keep that in check and I think we'll be fine.
What is more concerning after watching the Prov St J team for me is St John's. That is a very long athletic team that could give us fits. They are also young so they could be getting better as we get ready to face them. Expect a real battle from those guys.
BEAT PROVIDENCE. one game season fellas. Win Saturday.
Just win baby!
Not a trap, maybe a let down game. We will see exactly what this team is made of tomorrow.
I think the seniors are not interested in the NIT. I am expecting no letdown and Markus to have a big bounce back game
GO MU

And if you don't think Wojo reads Scoop: "We've already talked about it to our group. ... The most important game of our season is the one in front of us and that's the Providence game."

How much does it cost to rent a bat?
That would really put Ed Cooley off of his coaching game. It certainly freaked him out 4 years ago. Remember him hiding behind his assistant?

Someone needs a bat suit and sit behind Providence's bench.

I'd take his salary.
I'll be paying close attention during the huddle listen in. If he uses anything close to "play for 40 minutes" i think you have a solid case
Don't like that the women lost last night to PC. :( Hopefully that's a little wake up for the men.

True. If I were Wojo I would use that as a teaching moment!
Just when you hit your stride, next team up puts a target on your back.
We will see how badly Fisch and JJJ want their first NCAA tourney birth with games like today, SJU and DePaul.
