Vander playing well again in the D League.

Highlights from a recent 40 point game with game winner.

Vanders career with the LA Defenders is now longer than he was with MU . I admire the fact that he hasn't given up on his dream.

This is the real casualty of Marquette losing yesterday.

A team needs to give him a chance at playing in the pros. He is killing in the DLeague i can almost guarantee if he got at least 15 mins on a team he would average at least 7-8 points off the bench, not great but not bad
-
He's been a top player in the D League for many seasons, yet nothing but some 10-days in the NBA.
I imagine that says something about his future.
-
At this rate, in two decades' time, he'll be able to coach a once-proud basketball program to 3 underwhelming seasons
-
Great news.
I'm sure he has his reasons for sticking around and playing for a few thousand dollars a year, but I hope he goes where the money is greener sooner rather than later and makes some big cash where a 6'4" shooting guard who can't shoot actually can make it professionally.

Shooting 39.3 percent from 3 this year. Career 36.3. I think Defense is the issue.
-
The Bulls should give him a chance......
He could be mentored there......

It's the D-league, bro. There is no defense.
Seriously though, Vander's D was stellar, at least when he was at MU
-
Holy crap, he's only 24. He could legitimately play overseas for 2-3 years, and build up cred to come back at 26-27 for another shot. The Defenders are also probably one of the worst teams he could be playing on. With the Lakers' youth movement and emphasis on building from the ground up, he's basically geriatric at 24. Better to spend some time in Spain/France/Italy/Greece
-
Defense the problem? Highly doubt that. Vander was an outstanding defender at MU. He played D at a very high level during his time here. D is not his problem.

Utter nonsense. That means he would score at 20 ppg per 36 minutes.
He is in the D-League for a reason.

Not disputing that, because I recall him playing pretty good D. Just triggered a fuzzy memory.
I remember Buzz and the rest of the team cheering him when he took his first collegiate charge. As a Junior.
That seems like a lot of games played without taking one. Though I have no idea if that stat is tracked anywhere aside from in the mind of Humpty.
Also, he is still only 24 - has a few more years to break it. If not he should go get paid.

Hot take, charges are a BS and if you're a good on the ball defender and play lanes wisely, as Vander did, you don't find yourself in position to take charges as much as someone who gambles or is often out of position.
Vander was starting games as a freshman and was in the lineup every game as a sophomore, and it wasn't cause he was an offensive threat.

I agree that the number of charges a player takes is very unimportant and does not equate to being a good defender, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that being out of position and/or gambling on defense results in you being able to take charges as a defender.

I guess I phrased it poorly. More like if you're tasked with shutting down a leading scorer, and playing him tightly, you're less likely to be in positions to take charges. Not as much as someone who is say sagging off their man on the perimeter.
-
Surprised he hasn't gotten another look. I am guessing he goes overseas if he doesn't get another chance this season.

I hope he does.
GET PAID, YOUNG MAN!

The Lakers pulled up Davis Nwaba from their D League team. Gave him two 10 day contracts and then signed him to a multi year deal. Nwaba has limited offensive skills, however he does have an NBA level defensive skill and that is why the team took him. As on poster pointed out, Vander simply is good in a lot of skills categories but not great in any one category.

Name says it all "D-Fenders" I have a toothache?

I hope he gets a shot, he's really improved since being at MU.

I hope he does too, it looks like it's not happening again this year though. On the positive side he is making a living doing what he loves.
