this is still the same team that only beat IUPUI by 8 and UVS by 11. How good can they be?
They also were missing their point guards but we still played very well minus the opening few minutes.
Wow you sure are tough to please. I say lets get very excited by this blowout win we have over a talented Big east team. Any time you can win on the road or blow out a conference foe is very exciting.
Also, I guess I must be looking at the wrong Providence schedule because I don't see that they played IUPUI or UVS. Instead I see that they beat Arkansas, Boston College on the road and barely lost to Miami at Miami (13-1).

They were also without Curry last year when we lost to them by 15.

PC is a good team...and they miss their guards big time. But what impressed me tonight is that we attacked their strength. While fast break points were about even (19 v. 18 for MU--where MU's guards are our strength), we led on: Pts. in the paint (42 v. 28), 2nd Chance Pts (26-eight), Rebs (34 v. 22), and Pts Off TO's (31 v. 15). We went right at their back line by attacking the zone. DJ's was the stud but his best play may have been the trey to stop their 7-0 run in the first minute. Great step up leadership.
sorry.
just got back from the game and I am still pumped.
this wasn't like beating coppin state by 40.
Providence has talent- and we just flat out wooped 'em.

We were also missing Matthews and McNeal at that Providence game last year. Touche touche

Yes, in the beginning of the year we beat IUPUI by 8...they are now 7-3, 2-0 in their conference and defeated UMASS who looks like a NCAA team this year.
I'll take the 11-1 body of work thus far rather than slow starts out of the gate trying to determine what kind of team we were going to be.
You are talking about the first games of the year. There has been over a month of practice since then. Those games do not matter any more.

Well, here's a reason to get excited. The last time Marquette fans saw their team beat a conference opponent by this large of a margin (29 points or more) was back in 2003. We had two such wins that year - against USF and ECU (PC is much better than either of those teams). I think we may have had a pretty good team that year - though it's a bit hazy ;)
Oh, and by the way, the '03 team only beat Coppin State by 18 (64-46). Coppin State was RPI #246 that year. This year we beat the (currently) #172 Coppin state by 47 (89-42).
I'm excited. Why not.
You are right - we obviously have a height issue

Ditto. Quick math reveals an average margin of victory of 30 points since the loss to Duke. Opening the Big East with a 29 point win isn't exactly reason to suggest we should doubt this team.
i love this board so much. i was being sarcastic. Just making fun of the people who were freaking out two games into the season. Of course it doesn't matter what happened a month ago.

Well, at least you know you're not alone in your excitement now. ;D
Of course, you're going to have people who say a depleted Providence was another cupcake. Maybe we should not schedule the lower portion of the conference. Play Georgetown, Notre Dame and UConn six times each.
I'm ecstatic about the win, but I think we'll know more Sunday after out trip to West Virginia.
