Freshmen leading the way early, MU up 12-6 with all scoring from Markus and Sam.
Howard is just really really damn good
Welp missed bound and an 1 :(
They have gotten some fortunate bounces so far on misses

Fool's gold offense so far. Going to actually run some sets and get the ball inside at some point. First 17 year old reference.
butlers Offensice rebounds killin us
Heldt with a great board. His shot.... He'll work on it.
This lineup is not as effective as the starters against Butler.
Gonna need to start grabbing some boards
Last two butler buckets off of offensive rebounds after great defensive stops.... So frustrating

This teams strength is from the perimeter. Dumping the ball to luke is fools gold.
Now if ur referencing driving the ball i would agree
Well, can't blame wojo for not preaching on it
The boys came to play.
Howard, is really, really, really good
--Is Howard going to be a superstar? How can he be this good? Who else was recruiting this guy?
--HC is even bricking FT's badly.
The defense appears to have improved.
Heldt plays great defense
Get luke the unnatural carnal knowledge out!!! Cant play d and cant reebound!!!
And suuuucks on O
--Missed rebounds always cost MU dearly.
--Fischer just isn't very good. And not smart.
We can score
We need a 5 to defend and rebound
Well, the first half crumble is in effect.
Hopefully it's the only one and things get back on track
MU now not running offense and waiting for Markus to bail them out. Fool's gold. Need to grab a defensive rebound.

Why can't we hold a lead?
Because it's a game of runs and Butler is good. Why did Butler let us get up 12 in the first place? Come on.
Put Luke back in. Run some offense. Quit settling for early shot clock 3s.
Hauser found his range.
When Marquette shoots 3 s in rhythm, they are money. Have forced a couple.
Fantastic close to the half.
Rowsey rushed the final shot tho.
Keep playing good D, grab the defensive boards and keep moving the ball!
Best half of basketball so far this season. Sure we need to board better. But this is a ranked team in their gym.
Was that the best half of basketball we have seen this year? I vote yes
Now don't run it all down your leg in the second half.
Now, can we hold the lead.
#justwinbaby
Do we keep up the intensity? True test right now, comin out of the half, butler will make adjustments, MU hopefully can do the same and keep the foot on the gas, not get complacent....

Best part is I think we could definitely have been even better. With the second chance pts given up and some stagnant offense in the middle there.
Hopefully they keep this up!
Not only best half this year, maybe best half MU has played in about 4 years.

Notwithstanding the lights out shooting fest on Saturday, I would say this or Vandy 2H. I say this one because it feels like even though Butler got second chance points, the defense even on those stands were pretty stout.

Testify.
Based on some of the chatter here I would have guessed we're losing. Rather we're up 16!
C'mon Man!
Frosh with 27 points on 11-16 shooting including 5-9 from three on the road versus ranked team.
Not too shabby.
Marquette's defense up to the shot going up was the best all year.
Can we play 40 minutes against a team known to make adjustments in the second half? Play to win, not to not lose.
Only 3 TOs and 14 defensive boards. Pushing the pace.
That was an impressive first half. GO WARRIORS!!
The run is coming. Need to match the intensity and weather the storm

This is probably true. That said, "the run" last half was abbreviated by some damn good defense by Marquette that ultimately gave Marquette a counter-run. Just keep em short and don't have your own drought.
So they have to out score us by 25 to beat the odds this next half?

Agreed. Butler will make a run and we need to stay on our game. Sure Wojo preaching first 4 minutes.
Over half the latest ranking were released. Butler was #12 in the first half and they are #13 in the second half.
Good d. Weak foul.

Hope teal wasn't needed
Luke's critics will hate his game today. His fans will love it. Box score doesn't show box outs, extra passes, or how the coverage he draws opens up our shooters.
Apparently calling it tight in the second hpalf
Need Haani to keep hitting those.
Gotta love the shooting so far. Let's keep it up for another 17:35!
Cheatam has got to make that.
And now here comes the run
That's about as sloppy a pass as you can make. Take care of the ball, box out and we got this.
Careless by Markus. Gird the loins, the push is coming.
Good time out
Good Timeout...Have a good possession here and stem the tide....fingers crossed. Could be the biggest win for MU in years.
How is Sam deflecting a pass a foul?
...and JJ does his thing. Butler home cooking starting to simmer.
Just racking up the fouls now
crap, smell leg.
Cmon guys
Have to get that rebound! Jeez, they are calling it tight this half.
6 fouls on MU is first 4 min.... >:(
Get the kitty litter.
Good god. Those were some bad fouls given. Boys need to shake it off and get back to what they were doing before.
We have to brace for their run and hold them off.
Run some offense. Time to drive. Stop settling for fool's gold 3s. Like that
Calling all seniors
Calling all seniors
nice hops Haani!
And that. Need some defensive intensity
Duane laying on floor like Sonny Liston..
they are calling everything on us. That was not a foul on howard and that was a charge taken by duane
Defensive help?
So what do we lose by...15
This may be Luke's worst performance of his career relative to his low-post defense.
Wow, Luke...
........
Feels like we're toast. Pull it together boys!
Len pointing out lukes standing n watching vs widemans blocking duanes shot is lukes issues in a nutshell
Sorry luke defenders but there are nonstats for that. We are a better team with heldt in there. Or in the first half with hauser in the post
We knew they would make a run but this is really bad
come on......survive the run and hit em hard.
Wojo laid it out. Need defensive cajones.
Need to throw Matt in there for a little bit.
Luke, get the F out of the game!
2nd chance opportunities continue to kill us
And with another stupid foul on Rowsey
Get him oooouuuuuttttt!!!!!!
Officiating has taken over, but Luke has become worthless and clueless at both ends.
Ref show unfortunately. Looking like they had the -8.5
Just flat out terrible.
The worst meltdown yet
Only MU could turn a 16 point halftime lead into a 4 point deficit. Unbelievable gag job.
Wow. Wow.
Let's see if we have any stones.
Wow.
I hope we have a run left, but Butler just turned up the gas way up...
If Heldt was competent, he would be in the game now.
We're good enough to get up big on teams. Not good enough to put them away. Really frustrating.
I used to be in love with college ball. The constant fouls really ruins the flow of the game. Just unwatchable.
game
A top 15 with a huge home court advantage came out more aggressively. Wojo pleaded for intensity in the last timeout and the senior's version of intensity is dumb fouls and dumb shots.
This is the ultimate choke. Time to throw up.
Stupid fouls
Yikes! How come this team can't this team so be both so good and so bad in the same game?
MU is going to lose by 8-10. Much like the Vegas line. Beating a top 15 team on the road sucks. MU needs to find a way to raise their intensity in the second half. Consistent problem.
This is so pathetic. Don't care about all the "we weren't supposed to win" crap. We were up 18 in the second half. We might lose by as much.

His option is to put Fischer in with 4, put Heldt in (my choice). Right now, a timid Hauser is the big in the game. Playing 5 little guys in a zone doesn't work. Trying to pressure a team that never turns the ball over doesn't work. The guys on the floor not playing defense and helping is the problem. Need to match the home team's intensity. Players aren't doing it.
14-6 in fouls the second half if anyone was curious.

Some hero ball
It boggles my mind that a guy known for defensive toughness and grit as a player can coach a team that exhibits no toughness whatsoever.

Too many missed 3s. We live and die by them.
Fisher n jjj dont have the stones to play in an NCAA tourney during their careers, they are getting what they deserve
It's not even a slow choke. Like, you could put some scarecrows out there and they'd maintain that big of lead a little longer. Doesn't help that the only real team leader is the 17 year old freshman.

His options were, after the way the second half was being called and foul trouble.... 1. Put Heldt in and play zone. 2. Go small and hope to keep making shots. That's it. The players weren't playing defense. They showed they could in the first half and quit in the second.
Thought our D was getting better, not!! Fish looks awful and the lead that never was..
Fisher 0 fgs, 1 reb!!!!!!!, 5 fouls

I think the problem isn't his inability to adjust, it's that he doesn't adjust as much with the lead. Against Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, and now Butler, we tried to hold leads while the other team adjusted. You need to adjust your play whether you are ahead or behind because they WILL adjust.

I didn't watch the game but my basketball IQ tells me something really, really went wrong if we blew a 16 point lead at halftime.
You can blame it on Wojo all you want but to give up 63 points in a half aint on Wojo, it's on the guys. NBA teams don't do that and they get eight more minutes per half than we do! At some point you have to play defense and stop fouling out. We also have to be patient and not willing to jack up threes from lala land. In fact, part of what the problem of the Saturday DePaul game may have been was the mistaken belief that our guys can hit from anywhere anytime. Fact is, a great shooting team only hits about 40 percent of their threes and if you don't have a drive-and-dish or inside game, you have the capability to let a team on the ropes back into a game.
The sad thing is that this team has only been blown out of three games this year -- Villanova (who is Number 1 in the country), Wisconsin and Michigan (maybe they are in a giving mood to the Big 10). The rest of our losses, Seton Hall, Pittsburgh and now Butler, were easily winnable games. Imagine where we would be if we had one even two of the three (Seton Hall and Butler would be my choice). If we want to make the NCAA, these are the games we have to win.
At this point, if we go 10-8 and make the NCAA, we'd be a 9 to 10 seed and likely would have to play a Wisconsin or Butler caliber team on a neutral court. Unless we grow quickly, it is hard for me to imagine we're good enough to make it past the first day of the tournament.

I think they beat Butler at home. They are a completely different team on the road.
Why can't we defend layups? Our defense stinks when it's crunch time. Our players either step out of the way or stand flat footed with hands stretched straight up inviting the opposing player to shoot into them to earn a foul. Our basket defense is pathetic. Where is the coaching?

5'10, 6'4, 6'5 guys contesting at the rim against 6'7 guys. Every time they did, it was called a foul. They could have contested all they wanted and it wouldn't matter. Getting abused off of the dribble..... there's a different problem.
