Attended the game Sunday, didn't have the greatest perspective on what went on in the corner after the missed FT by SHU. Giving up the bunny right away was bad. The fouls, the inability to rebound a missed FT, were hard to take - can't coach that. But what about the offense?
The end-of-game TO by Markus (don't even know if it's an official TO since perhaps nobody had possession at the buzzer) was born out of desperation. My major beef is with the prior possession.
Are there not end-of-game scenarios that are practiced repeatedly? Jajuan is a senior, but I have got to say, there was another poster who said he should not be out there with the game on the line and I don't know that I would argue with him.
So bottom line - should they not have been able to run an offense practiced before, instead of making a stupid TO? And if so, is it not on Wojo? Or is this just what JJJ is?
I think what made the last possession more difficult is the fact that Seton Hall had a 3 point lead, which means you have to worry about Seton Hall fouling to prevent a three point shot. Seton Hall probably did not want to foul to early, but it allowed them to play very aggresive defense. Had Seton hall had only a two pint lead they would have had to worry about fouling.
Howard is a freshman. Freshman make mistakes, especially in high pressure situations. Simplest answer is usually the correct one.
So if a player turns it over you think that means it was play that wasn't practiced?
Seriously?
Players make mistakes......Heat of the moment....game pressure.....You don't think we lost close games under Buzz or Crean? Buycks against Louisville?
Come on dude
It was a horrible ending to the game and hopefully one time thing. I'm not going to lose much sleep over that one. Pissed off, but it happened. Far more excited about having a legit D1 PG.

This.
Markus actually had an over-the-top pass to Rowsey, who would have either been open or had somebody to pass to. But the window was small and Markus either panicked or simply didn't see Rowsey.
Markus is 17. He's a hell of a 17-year-old, but he's 17. Other guys mess up, too.
Every mistake isn't a coaching mistake for crissakes.
And I don't even get the subject of this thread.

Only partially Howard's mistake.
If you watch the replay, Rowsey was running almost alongside of Howard on the out of bounds side of him. Once the two defenders started to get near him, he couldn't drive past them along the out of bounds line because Rowsey was in the way. In Rowsey's defense, he took that route because he wanted to set up for a corner three.

I was at the game as well. We lost the game because we could not control the boards after their free throws and take possession.

This is absolutely correct. Howard needed to attempt to stay in the middle of the court because the play was (presumably) designed for Rowsey to hustle down the sideline to the corner. Howard didn't stay in the middle and Rowsey didn't recognize that he needed to stop/slow up and cut back to the middle of the court as an outlet. As it turned out, Howard dribbled right into a double-team because he headed towards the sideline and Rowsey kept going.
It's just one of those things where two players made the wrong call on split-second decisions. It happens. It shouldn't have come down to that play anyway.

As a guard during a press you avoid the sidelines like the plague or you are asking for trouble.
