Ahem
1. JjJ. Almost took it away because of a couple of really dumb plays. But the body of work wins for me.
2. Howard.
JJJ
Howard
Howard
Howard ... hot start that set the tone for the entire game.
Markus
Mods, please merge.
Really tough one.
1. JJJ. With the exception of one play, he played defense every second of the game. All around effort stands out. 5 Assists 4 steals.
1b. Howard. Hard not to give him the nod, but JJJ slightly better overall...only a Frosh!
Honorable mention: Luke; 10 rebounds; 5 offensive. They were big.
Howard
Markus in this thread too
Howard. Expectations should be higher for our seniors, so JJJ gets dinged for that in my book. Howard shot out of his mind.
Back to back for JJ. Howard was great raining threes, but a distant second since JJ was the energy on both ends.
Howard.
Can't go wrong with Markus or JJJ. My vote goes to markus cuz he's supposed to be in HS and that was a hell of a way to open Big East play. Markus 2 NBA
1) JJJ - He reverted back to bad habits at the end, but was so good for the first 35. The back to back run out dunks were killer. Plus that first dunk? Holy cow.
2) Markus - Fearless. Great shooting. Fouls limited him. Could have had 30 easy.
3) Luke - Best defense he's played all season. Those tip out offensive boards were great hustle plays. 2 points shy of a double double.
Please merge. I was 20 seconds too slow.

Two deserve it.
1.MH not mh
2. AR--so cool On the press break. Best pump fake. Great pickup.
Markus or JJJ...flip a coin.
JJJ - great game
Going with the first (4-min) SOTG site.
Have to be honest and admit that I didn't get home until midway through the first half, but I did get a text from my SHU niece that we were up 11-0. Then I started watching and it got tied. Considered just not watching since they obviously did better without me. Kept watching and saw the rest of the game.
Maybe Markus made a lot of his 3's when I wasn't watching. I saw them on replay.
I would cast my SOTG vote for a guy I've often maligned. JJJ had a very good game. Good point production. A few dubious drives that make me crazy. But he had steals, deflections, and was nuclear on some of his jams. Markus had a great game, but I gotta go with a guy I have often criticized, JJJ.
Watched it on my cell phone while eating at Gibsons in Chicago, but I'd say JjJ. Or Markus. But my gut tells me JjJ.
Good win.
Howard.
Would pick JJJ....he will be MU MVP at end of season and really exciting performance...But...too many drives right still ending in the twilight zone. I swear I saw Rod Serling at court side.
Got to mention Fischer tip outs honorable mention

I concur.
JaJuan. Georgetown simply couldn't guard him, and he made a difference on both ends. 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and an awesome block for good measure. Stud.
Can easily see the case for Markus, as well. Feels like every player on the court for Marquette made important contributions.

He had one more TO than Howard. Lead the team in assists and tied the lead for rebounds.
I think we are being a little too picky here. With Duane hurt, I don't think he came out much at all in the second half.
I LOVE Howard
But you didn't watch the game if you vote against JJJ

Even Matt played quality minutes on the defensive end. Yes, the one time he touched the ball on offense was a charlie foxtrot. But solid on defense. Exactly what we need from him.
JjJ - some frustration but the best player out there.
JJJ, dude was all over the place.
Btw - never realized he had braces.
Honorable mention to Markus. He is really good. Cya Traci.

Agreed. Luke, Matt, Sam, JaJuan and company made life really difficult for Georgetown's big men. They played tough, looked active, seemed to be talking and helping. Rebounding was pretty much even between the two teams.

I loved JJJs game tonight. Don't get me wrong. Said it in my post. But I want to see the heads down turnover drives go away.
I know I'm in the minority voting Markus. But he had an amazing game too.
JJJ - best all around player tonight

JJJ ALL DAY
1 - JJJ

Markus
JJ and for me there's no question. Howard started well, but JJ was the man in the second half to put the game away and contributed more than points, getting boards, assists, and creating turnovers. Best player on the floor tonight.
JJJ

It is pretty incredible that Markus scored his 23 points in just 21 minutes. But I'll stick with my vote for JJJ.
Was going to say Howard, but staying on the floor has to count for something too. Even though MH probably played the best 21 minutes of basketball we've seen this year, gotta go with JjJ for the complete game.
Markus.
I'll tell you who WASNT the SOTG. The official that stood there and watched rowsey get rocked and not make the call, forcing the official on the baseline to run over and call it. Good lord.

Damn! I was at the game by the student section so I couldn't see the ref's reaction. He would have gotten a good cussing out if there hadn't been a call from another official.
JJJ wanted it and it showed. Nice to see the senior leadership. Thought he brought it overall on both ends...but his steals and Peak's horrid shooting was the difference maker.
Howard was outstanding and Georgetown had no answer at PG. Luke with a double double. Hard to slice it but I thought JJJ made some critical plays.
Not exactly SOTG worthy but I thought Cheatham changed the game when Georgetown made the run late in the first half and Wojo had Cheatham guard Pryor. Really slowed down Pryor.
Easy, triple J. He got the post game interview.
Markus 2 NBA
148 Ortg on 28% possessions (110 on 31 was good for JjJ, but TO's & a much lower shooting % than Markus fell just short)

Had some nice seats last night from a friend and a sweater vest behind me started complaining about how Howard is too short to play in college when he got blocked for a layup. I just had to turn around and stare for a minute to realize he was serious. Howard played an amazing game.
I go with Howard.
Good lord. Howard is the same size as Aaron Hutchins and Dominic James. He's a tad shorter than Tony Miller but bigger than Tyler Ulis.
People who think that a player that size can't play college basketball needs to pay more attention.

Did that guy ever see Allen Iverson. Did he watch the game last night? Howard was amazing for a frosh. The little man is back in the game with the 3 shot, and
Howard hit 5 out of 6. Great looking shot, not afraid to take it. Maybe he liked watching Traci fake it more than shoot it. This kid is offensive minded and is perfect
for the college game. Rowsey as well. Both change the game for MU.
JJJ because of defense over Howard.

Totally not ready for the NBA. Lets see how he plays against Sumner, Brunson, kid from Creighton who stayed 4 years. Is he better than Yogi Ferrell? Long
way to go, I say he stays a minimum of 3 years but more likely 4 years.

The first dunk was a leak out and a long pass after a Hauser rebound, only one of them was a steal. But I agree. Very good.
No issue with Howard or JJJ. Rowsey was very good as well, but a step below those two.

What does ready for the NBA mean? Not to rehash the Henry Ellenson arguments all over again, but I think Howard is a little like D James where his draft stock will be the highest as a freshman. The biggest thing holding back Howard is his height and that won't change any time soon and the NBA game is expecting taller ball handlers each year. I think we may get lucky and see Howard for all 4 years.

Disagree. The biggest thing holding James back was his shot, not his height. Guards who can't shoot are few and far between in the NBA. Just ask Vander Blue.
Howard won't be on anybody's NBA radar this year.

For those worried about Markus leaving, take a look at this years draft. It is loaded with tall PG's who know how to score and pass the pass, while leading their teams to the tourney. Howard (5'11") and his stats (10.6 ppg/2ast) look like small game compared to those guys. Between his height, relatively small impact, and little exposure I don't think he is going anywhere anytime soon.
Markelle Fultz - 6'4"
Dennis Smith - 6'3"
Lonzo Ball - 6'6"
Malik Monk - 6'4"
De'Aaron Fox - 6'4"
Frank Ntilikina - 6'5"
Edmond Sumner - 6'5"
Late firsts-
Jawun Evans - 6'1"
I really think MU's next NBA player/s could be the Hauser boys.
If Sam progresses he would be a solid bench player like a Novak.

Lots of good PG's likely in this year's draft, BUT... outside of the Markus 2 NBA discussion, do you think a lot of NBA folks look at ppg & apg & call it a day?
As an example, Sumner's 14.3 & 4.7 might do a lot for you, but....
Sumner (Markus): Ortg 108 (129); usage 24% (21%), %shots 20% (21%); eFG% 52.3% (68.0%); TO% 21.8% (17.9%); 28.6% (54.2) 3FG%

I think Marcus' biggest hurdle will be proving he can deliver those numbers over more minutes + defend his position. Both will take bulking up -- lucky for us that may take another year or more.
He is a real talent - multi-dimensional on offense at a very young age. Can't wait to see what his MU career brings.

Yes and no. You would be surprised how old school some GMs really are the way they scout players. If Markus Howard is hovering around 10ppg as a scoring point guard on a NIT, I don't think a lot of GMs would pay attention enough to drill into his high Ortg. He needs to start putting up some bigger numbers and winning games to get noticed
In hindsight, I wish I would have left Sumner off the list. He is projected late first, and I bet he will be a second rounder once a few new Euro's pop up. And to kind of further my point, I think he is just that high due to his height and athleticism, which is huge for projecting to the next level.
Talking about Markus' NBA prospects right now is meaningless as he couldn't declare for the 2017 draft if he wanted to because he's too young.
More realistic would be Markus2sophomoreyear.

Stop with the Markus to the NBA crap.
Don't make me have to go back to what some here were saying about Mayo his freshman year. He was very good through the 20th game of the season and there actually were more than a few Scoopers worried that he was going to leave for the pros after the season.
Then, Mayo - to quote Mike Tyson - "faded into Bolivian." When he finally left more than 2 years later, it wasn't his decision.
Markus is better than Mayo, and I'm not claiming otherwise. I'm just saying ... stop it.
Two good choices this time, but JJJ gets the edge with his overall line. I have a feeling Howard will get a few more over the next few years though :)
