If Marquette fails to make the NCAA Tournament this year, then the Class of 2017 will have never seen Marquette play in an NCAA Tournament game during their college careers. This year's seniors were still in high school when MU lost to Syracuse in the 2013 East Regional Final.
The last MU class to go four years without an NCAA Tournament game was the Class of 2001.
The last MU class to go four years without an NCAA or NIT game was the Class of 1992.
Per College Basketball Reference, this year's MU Senior Class has, through the end of the nonconference season, witnessed 59 MU wins and 50 MU losses (.541). That is the lowest winning percentage of any four-year period at MU since the Class of 1993 went 62-53 (.539).
The Classes of 2009 and 2010 had the best mark of the Big East Era (Both went .696). The winningest MU senior class ever was the Class of 1973, which went 104-12 (.897). The worst MU senior class ever was the Class of 1951, which went 31-59 (.344).
1992 saw the NIT in 1990. This is the first 4 year period of no NCAA or NIT since prior to 1955.

Cautionary Note: Calculations are by winning percentage over four years. A win over IUPUI in December counts just as much as a win over a Top 10 team in February.

Let's hope JuJuan and Luke decide to will this team into the tourney and make this post moot.

Ugh. It really was as bad as I remember. The worst year since the early 50's.
Prior to 1975 (maybe 1974) freshmen were not eligible. Did you take that into account when you figured class wining percentages?

I think he was just saying the common student saw the MU men's basketball team go xx-xx in their 4 years at Marquette, not the freshman recruiting class went xx-xx as a class in 4 years at MU.

Minor correction: Katin Reinhardt was playing for UNLV in 2013 and would have faced us in the regional final if they had won their first 3 games rather than being upset in the first round.
Class of 2015 started out well, then we hit a major speed bump our junior and senior years.

Pretty sure that the reference was to MU students, not players.
Thanks for this. Interesting.
I guess it partially explains why those of us who graduated during the 70s are so insufferable here (or seen as such)...
...we were spoiled by the all time 3rd best decade long NCAA BB win percentage , only behind the better 10 year period records of UK and UCLA

This. Each year refers to a common MU student graduating in that year, and is the cumulative winning percentage of each four year class. Figuring out each class of basketball players' cumulative record with players moving in and out, and transfers, and freshman prohibitions, and partial qualifiers and redshirts would be a titanic undertaking.
e.g., I'm Arts and Sciences 2006. My class' winning percentage (.675, at the time, one of the best since the early 1980s) includes 2003 (Final Four Season), 2004 (NIT), 2005 (NIT), and 2006 (First Big East Season, NCAA First Round).
I'd theorize the ramifications are not good for future season ticket sales.
No doubt, student attendance goes down when the team's performance isn't good.
Project that lack of attendance/enthusiasm into the future, and X% fewer current students buy season tickets in the future as they weren't "trained" to go to games while they were students.

I remind my daughter that she was there for one of the greatest sports runs in MKE/MU recent history. A Super Bowl and S16, S16, E8.

In that case my winning percentage was .853.
