Title: Two games in the next 18 days
Post by: rocky_warrior on December 10, 2016, 07:30:32 PM
If the defense is going to improve, this is the time it needs to happen.   Sure there's finals in the next few days, but after that Wojo has pretty much unlimited practice time with the team.  If they learn to play defense better, maybe they'll even get to go home for Christmas :)

However, Georgetown at home is looking much more winnable than expected at the beginning of the season.

I hope you're right.

To me this one play shows the level of MU's talent. There was a rebound situation where Haanif had Hayes perfectly screen out out along the endline. Hayes went up twice over Haanif and tip the ball keeping the rebound alive. Eventually, Haanif did snare the rebound, but by that time he had it was standing out of bounds. Turn the two players around and there is no way Haanif is able to keep the rebound alive and Hayes would of had the rebound and not gone out of bounds. I think MU has talent, but lacks the elite athleticism to handle teams with players like Happ and Hayes.

Hayes is a 6'8" 240lb SR PF, Cheatham is a 6'5" 194lb SO SG

Correct.   And yet HC was forced to fight him for a rebound because he was the second biggest player and best defender on the floor for MU.  Which, in a nutshell, encapsulates the defense and rebounding issues facing this team.    Which will only get worse in the Big East because there are lots of 6'8, 240lb 4's in the Big East.

In losing to Oklahoma State in Maui 97-70, Georgetown had 28 TO's to Ok St's 11!
