Current Forecast: Play-in Game in Dayton then Wisconsin in NCAA 1st RoundAs Marquette gets ready for the Wisconsin Badgers, and interesting forecast played out on the
RPI Forecast site. If bids were passed out exclusively by the projected final RPI for each school, with automatic bids accounted for, Marquette would be the third from final at-large bid.
The last four in play in Dayton in the opening week, and under this scenario if every favored team kept winning except for Marquette, the following would be Marquette's path:
Dayton: (12) Wake Forest vs. (12) Marquette
1st Round: Marquette vs. (5) Wisconsin again (the third best 5-seed on the s-curve)
2nd Round: Marquette vs. (4) Saint Mary's
Regional Semi: Marquette vs. (1) Kansas
Regional Championship: Marquette vs. (2) Baylor
Final Four: Marquette vs. (1) North Carolina
National Championship: Marquette vs. (overall No. 1) Villanova
The other Big East teams would be:
Butler (last 3-seed)
Xavier (1st 4-seed)
Creighton (last 5-seed)
With Marquette as the 5th and Final Big East Seed:
Providence (first 2-seed in NIT)
Seton Hall (top 4-seed in NIT)
And Georgetown missing the NIT by three spots though it would be more due to automatic bids for regular season winners that did not win their tournaments.
Obviously this projection could go way up or down based on Saturday against the Badgers.

So we'll be playing Villanova for the National Championship? I can dig it.

ESPN would be pissed about this result.
Agreed! One of their writers had a great line last year about the wish that they could give a couple of baskets head start to the blue bloods.

Joey Brackets has in Dayton vs. SMU, then playing the DOMERS!

I'm somewhat surprised he has us in over Seton Hall as the 5th Big East team at this point.
I would love a matchup with ND.
The NCAA would be unbelievable. I'd be happy with the NIT considering the depths we've seen recently...
There is another thread about this somewhere but I'm too lazy and I'm supposed to be focusing on my thesis paper...
But we are 7-2. We have a chance to finish 10-2 or 9-3 in Noncon.
Some scoopers predicted 8-4 even.
Either way 9-3 leaves us at needing 10-8 or 9-9 (with a win over nova or X or Creighton). 10-2 leaves us at 8-10 minimum I feel again assuming we get W or 2 over some of the top dogs. If we can swept the bottom 4. We are at 8.
Hoping this gets us in the NCAA barely at least.
Again this team can shoot us into or out of any game.
There is no point to this post. I just really needed to not think about this paper for 30 seconds.

I'm pretty sure there were some that were thinking 7-5 or 6-6.

I think at 10-8 with 9-3 noncon you're probably in.
9-9 probably does it if we can beat Becky on Saturday and win the last 2 bunnies.
11-7 or better and we should be in good shape even with a loss on Saturday.
A win against Bucky will make us 3-2 in the big non-con games and 2-0 against the 'solid' buy opponents (IuPUI and Fresno) I know IUPUI was technically the tourney. That would be a very solid non-con. Means that 10-8 in conference probably gets it donewith 20 overall wins in the regular season against a credible schedule.
