If Marquette beats Georgia and somehow beats Bucky. What would they be ranked the following Monday? If they beat Georgia would they get votes
No and no. Two early season losses one of them an embarrassing ass-kicking in a featured game, will keep them out of the top 25. The way in is to not lose again about 4 games into the conference season.
No. Going 3-0 next week might get them some votes, but I don't think rankings are in the cards for us this year unless we open conference play 4-4 or 5-3. If so, maybe early to mid February.
And we should know better by now. People asked this before NYC and they got trucked by Michigan.
Bigger jinx than the baby blues/grays/national TV.
Both UGA and UW would have to be ranked... at that point, recency bias would have the voters overlook Michigan/Pitt in an attempt to justify having UGA and UW ranked but losing to an unranked team. It's not an uncommon phenomenon this early in the season... heck, look at Syracuse this time last year: received nary a vote in week 3 but rattled off a couple wins vs. ranked teams (18-UCONN, 25-TAMU) that week to launch themselves up to #14, went on to lose to Bucky and G-Town the following week, dropped from the polls in week 5 & didn't sniff the AP poll for the rest of the season, then proceeded to lost to UNC in the Final Four.
Moral of story: If MU ends up ranked next week, starting making plans for the Final Four.
Except Georgia isn't ranked now and isn't getting votes. Hypothetically losing to us Sunday won't earn them any in Monday's poll.
I doubt we're ranked all year. Won't bother me in the least if we're back in the Dance.

Amen Brother!
One game at a time. Big game Sunday.
Stop worrying about rankings.... Doesn't matter right now. This Georgia team is physical and could beat us down and out if the YOUNG kids don't bring it. One thing I love so far about this team is they don't give up in games whether they're down big or up big - speaks well about Wojo keeping dudes accountable. Also great for the covers against cupcakes ;D
I would suspect it would be like after Vanderbilt where we would be getting votes out of respect for beating major conference teams but not enough to get ranked. In 2010 and 2011 we weren't ranked at all and both times we made the dance, I'll take that over 2014 where we got to be ranked and sit home in March.

MU wasn't ranked at all in 2005-06 either... and that team had a whole backpack full of quality wins that year.

Exactly, and yet in 2005 and 2004 we were ranked and ended in the NIT. Essentially I'm saying give me 06, 10, 11 over 04, 05, 14.

It wouldn't bother me even if we
don't make the Dance. All I care about is Wojo being a swell fella and the guys making the games close.

Rankings mean nothing.
Warriors hunt NCAA berths and national championships.
The closer we get to both, the better.

My thoughts exactly. Get back to the tournament first. Then worry about where we're ranked and everything else.
As long as my checks to Matty V continue to clear, we'll get at least 1 vote next week, win or lose.
First off, dat ain't happenin'. Secondly, higher probability dey lose both, and thurdly, if Kate Upton had a penis, she'd be a dude, ai na?

+1 They are just the opinions of people who don't know the Warriors like we do.
No ranking and agree means nothing for us. Too many teams with 0,1,2,3 losses. If we keep winning and have success into the BE season then I might care because of perceptions and NCAA seed. By 20 games in, a lot of the pretenders will be gone also. Hmmmm...are we a pretender?? :-\ ;D
