As MU gears up for the good teams, for tonight's cupcake I want to see an emphasis on defensive pressure and efficiency. MU is going to win tonight, probably by a bunch. Tonight, defensive discipline, correct rotations, smart physicality. Make the other team play slow and stand still on offense. Once MU gets the rebound, sure, turn it into a track meet. But lets see the same attention to detail on the defensive end.
Even a great defensive effort against this team wrong count for much. W Carolina is one of the worst offenses in D1. They're shooting 34% from the field on the season.
I saw that looking at their stats for the year.
Okay, but what should we do for our game against Western Carolina? ;)

I hope we beat them just like we did Northern Carolina in the '77 title game!!
(This is all so confusing.)
I'd like to see better defense as well. I'd also like to see more people in the stands...Attendance has been PATHETIC, especially by the students. I guess having bad teams the last 3 years doesn't help.
Wojo better right the ship, and fast, or his a$$ is grass!
Make Marquette basketball great again!
vegas has MU as around a 26 point favorite. with over/under at 144, that would put it 85-59.
Western Carolina scored 43 against Miami and 38 against Ohio State.
The only time they've scored more than 63 was against Hiwassee, which is a 2-year college with 422 students.
can we go over the century mark for the 3rd time in a row? my bet is yes and without checking, i don't think we've ever done that

You would be correct.

Last couple of games have been during vacation so... can't read a lot from that. But I would expect lower attendance compared to last year since we had no NIT or NCAA.

Western Carolina plays REALLY slowly...so I don't think so. It won't be because of lack of efficiency, though,

I'm thinking that Katin's shot finally starts going in, and he gets 100 by himself!
But I'd settle for 90. That's the kind of guy I am.

On the flip side, they have a modestly respectable eFG% defense. I'd like to see us work the ball for good shots with persistent passing, not abandon any semblance of flow as soon as things go cold for a few possessions like vs. Michigan and 2H vs. Pitt
Their offense: A couple guys just jack up ugly threes.
Tonight won't tell us much about our d (nh)

Yes...but ESPECIALLY this buy game. The offense is that bad.

Last year against IUPUI we drew 11,597
This year against IUPUI we drew 11,552
Monday game vs Tuesday game.
Both years we've averaged a few hundred over 11,000 against our buy opponents.
Seems pretty comparable to me.
Well people seem to be getting their wish. No Katin tonight due to illness. Sam may play 30 minutes tonight.
What's da word on da street 'bout da real reason he's out tonight, hey?

Marquette's Zone Topples Western Carolina 63-53
February 12, 1975 By The Associated Press
The Marquette Warriors were in foul trouble, but you couldn't tell the difference. As usual, they found a way to beat you. Actually, Al McGuire found the way. "When Bo Ellis got, his third foul, we had problems, so we went to a zone, " said the Marquette coach. "Western Carolina is a good club, but they lack perimeter shooting. When we went to the zone, they couldn't handle it.' The result was a 63-53 victory for the nation's ninth-ranked team Tuesday night.
No Western Carolina Alum this game?

Seriously? Sold seats vs. attendance are two very different things. Place is ghost town. Embarrassing.

Yeah...it's how everyone measures and how we've always done it. Not packing 16,000 actual bodies into a cupcake is just reality.
