According to Mark Miller asked for and granted his release....
Does that mean he is transferring?? I just saw that too.
Yes. He is transferring.

For Both Parties!
It would have been better had he left after last year. Hopefully he will get his junior year reinstated (a la Dawson) because otherwise he will only have one semester remaining.
Does anyone think this could impact Anim's red shirt? Just conjecture on my part.

That Anim could decide to play this year.
I doubt it because Sandy wasn't getting time anyway.

That is one less player on the bench and may need his services if he is willing to give up the red shirt.

Ah, this again.
Not sure what happened to him. Dude had such potential and looked to be a major contributor until his total meltdown last year.
I hope a change of scenery does him well.
Ames?
Does anyone seeing this happen to Duane Wilson?? His minutes are getting pushed back too
This is a really terrible move for him from a timing standpoint. Who is going to take a kid for one semester?

Not at semester. Maybe at the end of the year when he could grad transfer.
Best of luck to him. Hopefully he can get this semester back. Otherwise he might end up below D1 fit his senior season.
Was really hoping Sandy that would put it together. Athletic and good shooter. But no basketball IQ and no confidence. Hope he finds success next season.
Don't mind losing him. Really don't think he was going to play much. Maybe we get lucky and find a quality mid-season transfer.
We're one step closer to an all Wojo team.

He would fit in well up there.
Wish Sandy well. Wojo needs to shorten his rotation and Sandy was definitely at the end of it. I hope he can get this semester waived for his own sake.
Back to two schollies for next year.

Totally. B12 would eat him up. Issues are mental not physical. I swear I saw him tear up on the court after 2 TO's and an air ball vs Nova last yr. Timing is odd which makes me believe he didn't see this drop off in playing time coming.

Hopefully someone with size. Next year's roster is sort of small. Probables:
Heldt with backup Theo John
Cain with backup Wilson at 6ft 2
Hauser with backup red shirt Sacar at 6ft 4
Cohen at least had some height, but no bulk. Seemed like a fairly decent backup player his freshman year, but last year starting with BE play, he was just a mess. Started poorly with limited play this year and hand writing on the wall with him the last man on the bench. Wish him the best, hopefully ending up at a mid major level place.
Good luck Sandy.

Exactly. I hope you find what you are looking for.
Transfers always sting for me, I remember when Jamail Jones told me he was transferring, he and I were actually friends. Always sad to see someone leave the Marquette basketball family even if it is in their best interests. Best of luck to Sandy, I really hope he finds the confidence and potential he still has.

As much as I try to avoid this damn place I just get dragged back in...
I hope he at least finishes off the year with us. It would be crazy for him to throw away a full year of eligibility after barely playing this fall. From what I understand Dawson did not get a waiver from the NCAA so that 4 minutes cost him a full year.
Understandable to put yourself in best position possible but bailing 10 days into the season is a quit job. This team is nowhere near it's best positioning. It will be hot hand hula-hooping for four more weeks. Even if not an overwhelming possibility, Cohen could have made an impact to at least garner 8th or 9th man. Good luck in Green Bay.

Ooo... Yeah he shows up as a senior on their roster even though he was clearly labelled a sophomore last year.

No chance. A public announcement like that means he won't be in the Kasten practice facility ever again. You simply can't have a guy that's leaving impact the ongoing unit. Seems to be a curious decision by Sandy. Before the year of after as a Junior; not now.
Gets to start talking to schools/coaches and see what his options are earlier this way. No longer on scholarship so anyone can talk to him now.
Man, I still wish him the best hope he can succeed wherever he goes. All of the scoopers and mu fans are rooting for the sandman
Good luck to Sandy. Good kid that somehow didn't work here.
I hope he does well wherever he goes.
If he can develop well i can see him becoming a decent player
Good luck to Sandy. Was looking at a very Juan Anderson career here. IIRC he was the first recruit to publicly say he was staying with MU after Buzz left. I appreciated that.

Never warmed to the kid. Hate it when a signing turns out badly but he really never demonstrated (other than a momentary flash or two) that he would be a significant contributor here. Too bad.
Good luck wherever.

New thread for Yankee on how wonderful Chief is doin', hey?
He could also redshirt all next year to play a full 2018-19 season. Seems like that would be the best decision if he's staying at the D1 level. Too bad things didn't work out.

I think that scenario would be a very good thing for him. He could get his degree for sure and probably get started on a graduate degree.
Good Matty V article on Sandy

Not sure what Sandy's long term plans are but from a basketball perspective he would be wise to sit out until '18-'19. Again, not sure why he wouldn't have played out the year at MU.
Good luck to Sandy. My suggestion if you really love hoops and want to play: forget about D1. Go to a top NAIA or D3 school, play immediately, rack up 1.5 good seasons with good scoring, rebounding and steals stats, and get a job playing overseas for a couple years before you have to enter the real world. If you stay D1, you'll have to wait too long and then maybe ride pine again, and all chances of a couple good pro years are gone.
Hopefully, his next school won't expect him to play PF.

This seems like a transfer that makes sense for all parties, though unfortunate for Sandy that it wasn't better timed. Hope he finds a good place to land and flourishes.

He's a redshirt junior. That means he's in his fourth year at MU. If he has been going to class, he could stay this season and grad transfer to play somewhere else next year.
Sandy was out with Rowsey and Reinhardt last night at Screaming Tuna. Not wearing a boot though
Any midyear transfers ala Big Fish that could be in the works?
Austin Nichols became available again.
I have a feeling Marquette under Wojo will not be taking many kids who were kicked off of their previous team...

I know he wasn't kicked off the team he played for immediately prior to enrolling at Marquette. Anything before that is irrelevant to the discussion.

I guess this also explains why I never got a serious look from the Warriors back in my day.
'Course, it didn't stop OLee and Copa from being Warriors!
Back to Cohen, I would guess Sandy did not like the fact that Katin "The Chucker" was 1 for 8 in the last two games. After all, Cohen can play the four.
No doubt Sandy was thinking, I can do better than that, why don't they give me a chance? Or, something to that effect.
Anyway, hope Cohen lands in a good place and does well.
