I really loved the 2011-12 team. Jae, DJO, Gardner, Vander, Otule, Jamil, just a good all-around team to watch. Only went Sweet 16, but I definitely felt they were better than the 2013 team that went to the Elite 8.

Agree 100% got unlucky with the Otule injury and running into an underseeded Florida team that matched up well against us. I think we easily take care of Louisville if we got past Florida.

This. My fandom goes back to the 3 amigos senior year and I would take that team or the Jae and DJO team over any of them.

I don't know that we'd have taken care of Louisville easily...we beat them at home, but they shellacked us at MSG and their high-pressure defense wreaked havoc on Junior.

I also loved that Amigos senior year team. Had James stayed healthy, they were a legitimate Final Four contender.

Even with James were they really going to take down Uconn in the elite 8? I feel they would've gotten through Memphis but that was a really good Uconn team.

With a healthy James, I think we would have entered the tournament at 27-6 (15-3) and possibly better with the #2 seed in the Big East Tournament. We would have either been a 1 or 2 seed in the NCAAs, and UConn would have likely been bumped down to a 2. A healthy James would have changed everything for us that year.

I don't know, but had James been healthy we'd have had a better seed and probably not been in UConn's region.  We played poorly after he went down which the committee attributed to us not being as good without him and dropped our seed some extra.  We were 23-4 when he got hurt and we limped into the NCAA tournament at 24-9 (1-5 without him and only win was against lowly St. John's).  We were looking at a 2 seed and ended up with a 6.

I definitely remember limping into the tournament but my concern is that we still didn't have a very large team. Similar hole that the Jae and DJO team faced and I feel like with the wrong matchup it could have been the Dayton or USF game pt 2. I believe we may have looked better on paper but were still one bad matchup away from a major disappointment (see Stanford 2008).

5 of the 6 under Buzz are right near the top, along with the Sweet 16 and NC teams.    Choosing one?    Impossible.

My favorite result was 1976-77, but my favorite team has to be the 2009-10 group.

Amigos just graduated, Zar was a senior but people didn't expect much from the rest of the team.  The way guys like Coobie, Acker, Jimmy and others stepped up helped turn that into a magical season.  Shame that last second shot didn't go in vs Washington in the first round.

Yep, this or 2008-2009.  2010-2011 was fun too with all the OT thrillers. Even though they lost to Washington in the opener of the NCAA tourney, that team was fun to watch.  Really, we were spoiled for 5 straight years under Buzz. Hard to pick my favorite team of the group.

Not my all time favorite team but I really liked Buzz's E8 team. Was interesting season on and off the court and felt that we were on the verge of something that year. Would be hard pressed to pick a favorite team from the Al era, loved them all.

09-10 was the OT thrillers and loss to Washington. 10-11 was get slammed by UNC in the Sweet 16 after squeaking in the tournament

1970-71: Undefeated regular season, lost in the regional by 1 to Ohio State after Dean Meminger fouled out of his first game in three years of varsity play on a touchy foul late in the game. A Big Ten referee called it. Soon after, Allie McGuire stepped on the line while throwing the ball in bounds giving the ball back to OSU with almost no time left.
The Dream, Jim Chones, Bob the Black Swan Lackey, Goose Brell, and Allie were the starting 5, I think.
The final NCAA poll had the Warriors as the #2 team in the country. Al may have won Coach of the Year that year.

Looking at that roster now, dang, how was that team not better? Sure they played in a conference that put 11(!) teams in the tournament. But Jae, DJO, Buycks, Jimmy, Vander, Davante, Jamil, Otule. Unfortunately only a few of those guys had hit their college prime by then.

The referee stole that game from MU, admitted it later in his life.  Best team by far, the only weakness was Allie.  Should have been Brian Winters.  How could would
that team been then?  Dean had 3 charging calls in that game, played 91 games at MU, fouled out of one, that one.  Charging against Jim Cleamons, good pro, but ticky tack foul.   Toughest lost at MU, second was losing to NC St., in the finals, Al 2 technicals, and then Indiana. 76-77 team was really good as well.  Great era for sure.  Now we are just hoping they make the tournament.

That team was fun just because no one really saw it coming. The toughest part was watching the big leads evaporate. Started with Florida State and just continued time after time. Seemed we got over that hump until that Washington game. What was it, an 18-point second half lead squandered? Just a brutal way to get eliminated.

1976-77 - Al's last year at MU and mine too!  I remember going to meet the team in the wee hours at Mitchell Field.  It was raining but we didn't care.  A LOT of beer was consumed that night!

Anyone who doesn't vote for Al's Championship team is a f#cking idiot.

Other teams were better. But none came close to capturing the magic. Butch, Bo, J, Jimmy, and Neary made it happen.

The end (National Championship) was great, but without that it was an extremely disappointing season. The team preseason was ranked 1 or 2, so expectations were really high. Al announces it is his last year and the team losses more games than it should and was truly on the bubble when the bids came out. 7 losses were a lot for a McGuire team.
The 76-77 team lost to the last undefeated season team in the tournament finishing with only two losses. A one loss regular season team was much more exciting than a 7 loss regular season team. You could not of had a better ending to Al's career, so naturally people would believe it was their favorite team. It certainly was my favorite season finish, but it was not my favorite overall team.
