Title: Poll: Our Record in 5 Tough Non Conference Games
Post by: Herman Cain on November 04, 2016, 04:40:15 PM
I believe the 5 tough non conference games will determine the trajectory of our season. If we do well we will have momentum and confidence going into the conference season and also we also help the overall standing of the conference which benefits us as well. There is a lot riding on these games in my view.

I feel good against Vandy and getting at least one at MSG. I'm going to say we can go 1-2 in the other three games, so 3-2 overall. Do that and 9-9 in conference will get us in the tournament.

I'll say this...0-5 would really put a damper on my trips to DC and New York the next couple weeks.

On paper we should be significant dogs to Wisconsin, slight dogs to Michigan, Vandy, and Georgia, and flight favorites against Pittsburgh. I think 2-3 is the most reasonable prediction, though 1-4, 3-2, and 4-1 are certainly possible. Id be shocked if we won them all or lost them all.

I debated between 2-3 and 3-2 and went with 3-2. I expect us to lose to Wisconsin, but that that would break the streak history going back to Crean. For several years now it has been two game win streaks. UW wins 2, MU wins 2, UW wins 2, MU wins 2, UW wins 2 and now MU has won 1, so winning this year would keep the alternate 2 game win streak going. Wojo has actually done pretty well in neutral site games. 2-2 in Big East tournament, 2-1 in Orlando and 2-0 in New York. I think we beat Vanderbilt. We go at least 1-1 in New York. Either two in New York or beat Georgia. Of course we could beat Wisconsin, but then I would predict 4-1.

damn!  there is so much parity within the top 100.  especially early as the "prognosticators" are just that, as so are we.  many intangibles-after reading cam's interview, if ya can't get an MU basketball woody from that...much of our successes will come from our ability to play our game.  quick tempo, good defense, protecting the ball- read keeping our to's between 10-15  if teams will be able to take us out of our game=trouble

all that said-duhhhh

this team seams to be bringing a NEW enthusiasm, a new beginning, a new excitement.  wojo is making MU a place where guys are going to want to come to play ball.  why?  guys love a fast paced, up tempo style.  wojo comes from a great b-ball background-yeah, i played for sheshefski, eyn'a?

bottom line-low turnovers and recognizing if the 3 isn't falling, have a solid plan "B".  what that is?  that's for wojo to know and us to find out

we are going to surprise a lot of people-newcomers-hauser, rousy, reinhardt, howard, and improvement from the returns

4-1    upsetting bucky at home, but losing in a squeeker to pitt at the gaaaaden, assuming pitt beats smu. good for a top 25 rating, but who cares about rank this early in the season.  it's a long season.  how we cope with injuries and extra-curricular chit(if any?) is very important as well...again-duhhhh

btw, 10 of our first 14 game and 12 of first 18 games are at home-don't know if this is good or bad-could help with confidence?

People pick 0-5 because for them it's a win win. Either they get to gloat about how they were right and we were wrong, or they get to enjoy Marquette winning. Least favorite kind of fan for me
