In the Chicago Trib sports today that D. Wade will be introduced as being from Chicago not Marquette during starting lineup introductions.
Pandering to the fans. It happens.
It's Chicago! It's Chicago!

Eh, I think it's more part his mission to address what ails the city. It's a statement that he's from Chicago and it's incumbent upon him to act. An opening salvo of sorts.
This should boost Chicago State's recruiting.
Just wait until he warms up in Indiana shorts.
I think everyone in Chicago knows that their two best and most identifiable players went to college 90 minutes north.
Maybe he can play quarterback for da Bears too, hey?
IIRC, Derrick Rose was also introduced as being "from Chicago."
Although, I'm pretty sure the season he spent at Memphis never actually existed.

Thinking the same.
The topic brings back great memories of one of the best commercials of all time:

The missed FT that cost them the national title ... I think that existed. But it was so long ago ...
I'm sure somehow ESPN had something to do with this

Wow. I thought you were kidding.

Probably just needs to close up shop.
Couldn't they just say "From Chicago and Marquette University"?
However, I don't think this is a big deal because our name will already be mentioned once in the starting line-up announcement.
I'd also be shocked if there isn't some cross-promotion between MU and the Bulls (maybe ads in the UC or during the broadcasts) with both of their stars hailing from just north of the Cheddar Curtain.
Reaction to this:
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe, JUST MAYBE, MU will schedule an annual game at the UC. A travesty that this has not happened yet.
One of the biggest arguments that the Bulls front office had for years (in trying to move on from him) was "but, Derrick Rose is from Chicago. We can't move him."
By doing this, they still cater (for whatever dumb reason) to the D. Rose apologists and diehard Chicago fans (not necessarily the same Bulls fans).
The Bulls moving on from D. Rose and instead getting to grab Wade is the best thing the organization has done since drafting Jimmy. Focusing the organization on Wade/Butler will do great things for them (and for Marquette as well).

Nobody from the Bulls front office said this ever.
It was long believed that the Bulls front office (aka Jerry Reinsdorf) shied away from drafting or signing players from Chicago because he thought playing in one's hometown would be too big of a distraction.

I've heard otherwise, but I'll just leave it at that.
