Recently finished our basement, mainly as a kids playroom, and put two TV's up on the same wall (roughly 3' apart).
There's an XBox One hooked up to one, and a WiiU hooked up to the other, so there's gaming, and app content on both.
We have DirecTv in the rest of the house, but there's no connection options in the basement. Curious on options for TV content...considered Sling, but seems like adding $20 per month for one room doesn't seem worth it. I had Slingbox years ago, liked it, and was considering going that route. I know DTV has the Nomad, but I believe that's only for DVR content.
If anyone is/has been in a similar situation, curious what you did, how you liked it. I like the two TV set up to watch sports, and obviously want to keep my content provider monthly cost as low as I can.

Have you considered one of those wireless AV transmitters? I have one at home sending a cable signal thru my living room wall into bedroom and one down in Havasu sending signal from bedroom out to my patio tv. Only bummer is if you are watching tv on one, that is the channel you are watching on the other. What's nice about it is, after buying the contraption. I think I paid about $40 or so for my cheapo and it is sufficient for my needs. Just a thought if that's the kind of thing you're looking for

Good thought actually, I do have a Peerless HD wireless transmitter, but you're right that it'll utilize another tv in use. Might be the best option.
There's a thread from a few months ago about Playstation Vue, which is $30 a month for 50 channels .. using either a PS, Roku, or Amazon device.
I cut the cord and did that .. so far so good.
Or fire stick? I think it works just like a roku, etc but after that, I'm technologically challenged. Back to the wireless, you do lose some picture quality so if you are a geek about HD, this may drive you crazy as it does my son. He forgets where we came from-not sure if old black and white went thru the phases of HD we do now. Did they increase the numbers of pixels over the years for B & W? Don't remember anyone complimenting us on our clarity watching mr. Ed
Dish, just curious. Do you not have the genie with Direct TV? We use that in several of our rooms instead of hassling with connections. Distance can be an issue, but as long as the main receiver is in a central location, it shouldn't be a problem.
Directv has a wireless box option. Theres also sling/psvue. Chrome/ruku casts are optional as well, get twitchtv, netflix, amazon with it.
Yep, wireless Genie from DirecTv is the obvious & easy answer

I do not, and a couple years ago when I called them to ask for Genie, they told me there was some issue with our setup that wouldn't allow us to get it. In hindsight, I should have called back and talked to another tech.
I'm an idiot for not thinking of it, big thanks for reminding me it's an option, and probably the best one.

The "cheap as free" option would be to simply run some coax upstairs to an antenna on your roof. Doesn't even need to be one of those big ass monstrosities... a small, inconspicuous DB-4 antenna from anywhere in the city will pull in a few dozen channels. Sure it's not DTV's Premier package, but if you already have app coverage, what more do the kids need?
The next best thing is a Roku/Apple TV/Amazon box... since you already have a DTV subscription, you'll be able to unlock and stream any apps which are already part of your DTV package, e.g. ESPN, Fox, ABC, NBC Sports, Bravo, PBS Kids, Disney Channel, etc... in many cases, you can watch those channels live via stream now.
Forget the AV transmitters. It's a waste of money to simply to mirror another box (unless you live alone) when you can turn virtually any TV into a fully functional boob-tube with a box, internet and a cable/sat subscription (two of which you already have).

I'm in the western burbs (Elgin), we have Apple TV as well. I agree on mirroring, having 3 kids who want to each watch something different, and mom and dad wanting to watch something else, it doesn't make sense for us to mirror. I'm gonna give DTV another call today to figure out our set up with Genie, then go buy the mini Genie's on Amazon and do a self install.
If I get electrocuted, someone on here needs to avenge my death with DTV.

FWIW, I believe you are still subject to a new 2 year commitment/monthly fee if purchased on Amazon. You might have some luck getting DTV to comp you on some.

Unless you're running a new power outlet for the Genie, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Though I'm sure many would be happy to avenge your death with DTV even if you live for the next 100 years.
I have the DTV Genie and it's great. It requires two cables into the house. One for the main DVR/BOX and one for the Genie router/transmitter.

NFL network and nfl red zone are now add ons for vue. 40 dollars for the entire season.
HBO will most likely never be on vue as they have their own streaming service. Which is essentially the same as an add on for vue.
