Warriors v the basketball spawn of the Tanned One. Euwwwww
Let's eradicate those basketball b@stards from the face of the earth.
Ox back with his fellow warriors. Christmas in July!
GO WARRIORS!!!
Dunks, what flavor of Sonoran Salsa pairs well with Warrior basketball in July?
I prefer my black bean and corn for victory in July!!
Go Warriors!!
Ox not starting
We need to find our shooting touch again.
Need to work inside to open up the outside. Need Jamil and Gardner.
Davante is at his heavier weight.
Ox!!
Did Jockitch just say Wilson is 6'10? Lol
Jamil isn't far off from 6'10". He was always within an inch of OTule.
So, what's everyone drinking? I'm going with Zombie Dust.
Fire up Warriors!

Shooting touch not there on either side. Doesn't feel like they're on the same page tonight. Still early, but need more team play on offense.
Gotta take that to the hole, DJO.
Ox has been pounding down the brats.
Gardner is still an absolute force
NO ONE CALLS HIM WOJ!
I see Devante got my order of salsa, he's been stocking up.
Jerel and DJO playing terrible
Buycks is a talented player. Really nice drive to the hole.
Sooooo....what's everyone drinking tonight?
Old school here. Evan Williams.
I like being able to hear what the ref says
we need some 3's to drop.
I love Wes.

super angry at DJO's beard - went from accentuating the chin to hiding it.
also, convo with my kid:
7yo: i thought you said Marquette was playing, i only see a SeaGull logo. are they the Golden Eagles?
me: yes.....and that is a pretty bad looking eagle
7yo: are they the dark uniforms or the super ugly uniforms
me: *sigh* the super ugly ones
Turn it back on to see an immediate 7-0 run.
Bad guys went on a run game tied 51-51. Davante is very large ( I would say 300 plus) and it looks like he can only play limited minutes
Ox has not shrunk.
Becoming apparent why DJO fell off the map

If we took good shots we'd be killing them.
Gardner with amazing move til I realize he drops it off to Derrick.
Refusing to put game away
we should be up by 12 or more
We are up 65-62 with 5 minutes left. We need to hold them off from a run.
Davante has incredibly quick hands.
We are up 71-67
We are up 73-69 with 1:30 left. Jamil Wilson with a hustle put back.
We are up 75-71 with 56 seconds left. We have ball.
That's the DJO I loved for 3 years!!!
We got this.
DJO!!!
That should do it!!
SOTG-Buycks.
DJO comes through with a shot at end of shot clock we are up 80-71 with 25 seconds left.
Until tomorrow boys, and chick.
Interesting to me that all of the guys seem to be playing with the same defensive principles. MU did a better job of switching and helping. And nobody has an answer for Gardner.
Very good team effort. Buycks is a helluva player and with DJO and Davante we are a force.

You are such an old lady.
Hard to believe Dwight Buycks can not make the league, really impressed me. Team did not shot the ball well in the first half, played tough in the second. Fun
to watch, glad to see them, played like Warriors at the end. If they make it to final 4, all the coaches should show up and be there, I mean all of them that left.
Buycks has turned himself into a helluva point Guard. He's a way better player now then he was in college.
Watching the second game . Mike Bibby and Jason Williams really understand how to distribute the ball.
Seriously people this is a step or two down from NBA summer league. Let's not read too much into this.

I don't agree with this. These are all the summer league guys who couldn't make the league 5-10 years ago who have developed their games more. Just look at Marquette's team. Everyone is far better than they were when they left Marquette their senior year, maybe with the exception of DJO. And I don't even know about him.

Absolutely. Pretty sure that MJax and Chapman would not be getting run in a summer league game. Ox still can't guard anybody. But he does still have great hands, both rebounding and catching passes. It is a pleasant diversion. But just wait until Wes loses his first game ::)
Marquette has had some god damn terrific guards these last 15 years.

MJax is getting run here. Chapman is too except he can knock down open shots so he has value.
I watch a lot of NBA Summer League. This tournament, at least at this point of the final 8-16 teams, is better quality than Summer League. Less talent, but better basketball.
Yes they have. And Wes, Diener, DJames , and Blue aren't even playing.

Not if there is athletic help. He has consistently struggled against shot blocking help defenders. It happened late tonight. He should excel in this because there just isn't time or coaching to really work out a defensive rotation on him.
Dakich on the call kept on raving about Ox (quick feet, good hands, high bball IQ).
He said if Davante got into incredible shape, he'd be in the NBA. I could see him fit the Glenn Big Baby Davis, Jared Sullinger mold.
But he never has. Gardner has great hands, great feet, great instinct around the basket, great touch. He is an absolute brute down low. But.... he has always struggled to play defense in space, he has always struggled with his weight, and he will never be taller than 6'7. Let's pretend, for the sake of argument, that he was on Cavaliers' roster. Who would he have been able to guard for Golden State? Let's pretend he was a Warrior as a pro, too. Who could he have guarded on Cleveland?

Holy Christ people. I know you love our guys but there is a reason these guys are playing here and not in the NBA. They aren't being overlooked. Most of them have played for NBADL teams or even had a cup of coffee in the Association. Buycks signed a two year contract a couple years ago and was given ever opportunity to stick.
Just enjoy them for what they are doing now.

Buycks looks like a NBA player. Jamil looks like a D League player. Jerel, DJO, they have their moments but are inconsistent.
What it is to me is fun. It's a great chance to see our guys again. To see Gardner be a bully in the post, to see Derrick play bigger than his size, to see Jerel play defense. Hope they win it all, but regardless I love the competition for the chance to see these guys again. Hope it helps their careers, but Buycks looks like the only guy with a NBA shot. Gardner...no way.

That said, I don't think your Cleveland/GS analogy is fair. If he could guard backup quality players and lottery teams he would be in the NBA. But he won't be able to do that either.

I told my wife before the game, "It's just a bunch of our former players and I promise I won't get too wound up during the game" -- because, well, let's just say I get pretty amped for the big games.
I didn't have to say all that, though, because it was Mrs. MU82 who was clapping and cheering and yelling at the TV! It was really funny. I guess we both missed watching MU hoops -- and it was a blast seeing some of our faves from the last few years on the court together.

Watched the second game between Always A Brave and Pedro's Posse. Always A Brave is made up of vets of Bradley's sweet sixteen team from ten years ago. They are going to be tough to beat.
Marcellus Sommerville has been playing in France since and will be tough to stop. Marquette's advantage will be youth and guard depth. Always A Brave also has O'Bryant at center who was an NBA lottery pick. Luckily he seems to be out of shape.

I miss Thomas Bilde.

Not a good sign when the announcers decide to start talking about baseball instead of the game.
Second time in as many days.
Not sure if this has been previously discussed, but does anyone else find that Chapman looks a whole lot like Paul Pierce?
Playing faster and picking up the pressure D made a huge difference. I didn't like the initial gameplan of trying to be slow and having Gardner work too much down low against a 7 foot pro in O'Bryant. DG got frustrated and we stagnated. Run these 30+ guys.
One more thing. Travis was crisp in the huddle calling up a very solid play with 5 seconds. The guys executed perfectly and got a great shot. Happened to go in but either way it was very solid.
At times Buycks just looks scary good. He's really grown so much from his time here.

I agree with this analysis.
Djo, out of control. Flashbacks
Refs are definitely inconsistent. At times calling it tight, at times letting them play. Just called a goal trend on a ball that was never touched.
M Jackson should've been subbed in to d up sommerville a long time ago
And that looks to be the nail
Danger zone.
Gut check time. 9-0 Bradley run has Marquette down 72-66 with 4:33 left.
Up to now, we've had a run in is to come back. Do we have another?
We got this.
Banked 3 for Bradley at the end of the shot clock was the turning point.
That extra three there looked rather daggerish to me. Guessing this is it.
Fun while it lasted. Bradley just too tough down the stretch. Better on defense, made their shots. A bit too much individual play from our guys after they got down. Hopefully a learning experience for next year.
Proud of our guys.
It was great to watch our guys. Hopefully an annual thing.

A bit too much? Totally broke down to 1-on-1 play the last 6-7 minutes. Trying to dribble through crowds. Outta control. Silliness.
Obviously, Wes can coach circles around Diener - ha!
Anyways ... I enjoyed their run, especially the win over the Fightin' Creaners, and I'm with those who hope this is an annual tradition.
Favorite part of the whole game: Diener asking "is that guy reffing Big East this season" after a terrible call on Mo Acker.
Worst part of the game: Individual play at the end.
The bradley guys were not better players but they were a better team. Hope the MU guys can stick together and keep doing this because they have more talent than nearly any team in the tourney.
n.b. DG is not good in this format, especially at 400 lbs. Have another sushi Davante!
Hard to win games when one team is in double bonus with 11 minutes to go.

Davante probably gained weight last night after having eaten the basketball so often. O'Bryant totally dominated him, and that surprised me.

Why? Athletic 7 footer. With Ox's lack of vertical, all he had to do is keep Gardner from getting into his body. Not the first time, but probably the last representing MU. I am sure DG will continue to beat up on skinny 6'8 guys in Japan and France. He will not make the NBA.

If O'Bryant was even remotely athletic he would've played more than 4 years in the NBA.
But he was good enough to play four years in the league. Which means that DG has nothing he hasn't seen.

Only delusional folks thought Davante had even a prayer at the NBA.
O'Bryant isn't very athletic. His build is similar to Hibbert's. And Hibbert also would make Davante eat the ball all day and night.
Doesn't mean I don't like Davante and didn't very much appreciate everything he brought to our program.

Hibbert might make Davante eat the ball. But Dirk still checks under his bed for Davante every night.

Thanking his lucky stars that every single one of the stoopid NBA GMs passed on the guy who was bound to be his nemesis.

Exact same type of guys he would have trouble with in college.
