75-60 with 3:37 left.. ouch.
this after only being down 3 (43-40) at the half.
It looks like the secret to beating G-town is to pressure the guards and push the ball. Memphis looks ridiculously good. Long athletes. Tough.
Memphis played a perfect second half against GT. Also, Marquette has the type of guards who will give GT fits, and I really like our chances against the faux Jesuits at home this season.
85-71 final..
ouch. starting at about 6 minutes into the second half GT just started falling behind.. almost as if they ran out of gas. If they are easily tired like this then I agree with oz.
I wasn't that impressed with GTown earlier this year during the SEC/Big East Challenge, they looked sloppy and with their slow - Princeton style offense I almost wonder how they can recruit such stellar players with such a boring offensive style. (kind of like Wisconsin, what scoring athlete would choose a style like Memphis' where they can score 20+ a game over Wisconsin or GTown where they'd average 12)
What's odd is .. for a good portion of the first half, GT had Memphis' number. Up by 5, up 7 .. Memphis would close to 2, GT would score 5.
I really thought GT was gonna win. Then the 2nd half started.
I agreed that Georgetown was just gassed. They havent been playing teams that could keep up with them so playing number 2 Memphis was something new to them this season.
Hibbert had 5 rebounds, a few points, not all that many minutes— this is the work of a 1st team All-American? He has many games like this. Hansborough would kill him. Dorsey DID kill him.
Gtown needs a small man

First yes, Hibbert will be an All-American. Everybody has their bad days, and Dorsey is a MONSTER. Second, no I'm not penciling in a W against Georgetown yet. Do I think we can win? Yes, I actually think we WILL win; however I don't think it's a guarantee and I think we'll have to grind it out at the end; I do not think it will be a blowout. They have two great guards. Jonathon Wallace is one of the most underrated players in the nation and Jessie Sapp is a VERY good player. Let's not forget this team went to the Final Four last year and returns 4 starters. Yes, Green is a HUGE loss, but Ewing Jr. and DaJuan Summers will fill in nicely for him. I'd be willing to bet that if Memphis and Georgetown meet in the NCAA Tournament it will be a much better game, and I'd pick Georgetown to win.
Hibbert has improved every year. The problem is that GTWN doesn't have the Olando Tucker 8 year plan.
