Jimmy Butler wears Marquette jersey after leading Bulls past Bucks

NBA all-star and former Marquette standout Jimmy Butler is no stranger to winning games at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. On Sunday night, he added another victory to the list, coming through in the clutch to lift the Chicago Bulls to a 102-98 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Love it!  I can't believe he has been involved in trade rumors.  What are the Bulls thinking?

He's not going anywhere. Just because teams call on him means nothing.

They're thinking, and perhaps rightfully, they need to blow everything up and start over. Jimmy is the only one on the team you could get an significant assets for. Dump Gasol, Noah, Rose, trade Jimmy, tank, build in the draft plus a couple of FAs. Would take 3-4 years, but it's the only way in the modern NBA.

The Bulls are in basketball hell, with Jimmy leading them down the hole. They should trade him, and as a MU/Bulls fan I hope they do. Jimmy can win something somewhere then.

I am not an NBA cap expert, but why trade JFB a top 25-30 NBA player, on a quasi-cheap contract (knowing where the cap is going to sky rocket).  What do you get for him?  A top 5 pick, a quality starter, and a future #1?   Wouldn't it make more sense to dump the trash (and probably pay for it), and build around him?

Because getting rid of the trash usually means trading for more trash.

Yeah, I get that.  But I guess my point, is why trade away someone who is in the top 5 @ their position, to help shed contracts.  I mean, with the cap going up, can't Chicago just pay themselves out of this predicament, with agreeing pay a solid chunk of Rose's deal to another team...And yes, it means more $$$, but the climb is not as steep if you start with nothing, than if you start with JFB.

Next year Noah comes off the books, and you have $73 mil committed.  Deal Rose, pay 1/2 of his contract, and you are down to $63, plenty of space with the cap moving into the mid to upper 80's...still offers plenty of flexibility, and you keep JFB.  In 2017 both Taj and Pau come off (and you might be able to trade them next season).

Just don't see why you deal JFB, who will make 16-18 mil the next 4 years, when players of his caliber will be making 20-24 with the new cap.  He is just a good investment @ this time.

But again, what the hell do I know.

The Bulls could deal Rose and pay part of his contract, but the contract values would still need to match to make the trade happen. IOW, they'd still have most of that $21M on the books, just allotted to different, lesser players. Rose is a UFA after next season. No sense in trading him for garbage. I agree mainly with what you're saying though. I wouldn't understand trading Butler. I don't think he's a player around whom you could build a champion, but he'd be an outstanding sidekick, which is better than starting at zero.

Noah and (likely) Gasol come off the books after this season. The East isn't very deep. Hang on to Butler and Rose, sign a couple athletic big men that better fit Hoiberg's style, see what happens next season and then go from there.

One of the biggest Gar/Pax issues has been that they play it too safe. There are some quality FAs out there this offseason, but they're risky. Hassan Whiteside (age 26) and Harrison Barnes (age 23) will be available. Can Whiteside keep his head on straight? Is Barnes the real deal who hasn't gotten his opportunity to shine yet? We obviously don't know but it could pay off big if the Bulls were willing to find out.

I don't think Jimmy is leading a team to a championship, like Merritt said, he's got to be sidekick.

I don't think Jimmy wants to be a sidekick to anyone once DRose is gone, that worries me.

I also hate everything about this Bulls team.
