Title: How would you rather lose in the Tourney?

I think I would prefer to just get blown out (even if it was an upset), but I wondered what the masses thought.

Using personal experience -- nothing was worse than that Washington and Mizzou game.  I was angry when we got blown out (actually many of our exits) -- I was defeated/drained/crushed when we lost at the last second.

As painful as the UNC and Florida Sweet Sixteen losses were, losses like Miami ('78), Washington, Stanford and Mizzou were far worse for me.  So full of "what ifs."

Not to nitpick but it was Mizzou where Zar stepped over the line on the inbounds. Washington was the Pondexter shot in the last few seconds. Either way, I'd take getting blown out. That just doesn't stick with you (as a fan or player) as long because you can't play the "what if" game over and over and over...

I was at the Washington game in San Jose.  It was painful, for sure.  I was at the Alabama game, also painful, but less so.  I was at the Stanford game, also painful...plenty of what ifs.

There's no shame in getting blown out by a better team, which is what makes the Washington loss particularly painful.

But I'd still take either an '03 KU or an '07 Moo U over a Sideshow Lopez any day.

This still haunts my dreams.

I'm still haunted by the sounds of that Shoemaker kid from Miami (Oh) slapping Whitehead's arms repeatedly without getting called for a foul in '78.

The definitive turning point in our long, downward spiral to mediocrity...

The real loss for Marquette was when they gave the job to Hank over Denny Crum.

Marquette had guys like Crum and Phelps crawling on their bellies to Marquette begging for Al's job.

Crum turned right around and signed the McCrays and Darrel Griffith - all of whom wanted to play at Marquette. We caravaned down to Freedom Hall in '79 and watched Griffith and Scooter break us apart. That March Crum was cutting down the nets while Rory Sparrow single-handedly beat Marquette in the first round.

I want to go down swinging like Xavier. At least then we put up a fight. I'd burn all my Marquette gear and call for Wojo's head if they lost like UNI. There is no excuse for what happened there. Absolutely horrible coaching in the last minute.

We survived the Kansas beatdown, and more importantly the Western Michigan NIT beatdown.    The ones that linger are the ones that got away.

I'm in the same camp, not showing up (i.e. Mich. St. or Kansas) or completely choking like UNI are worse than a hard fought game where a missed assignment or mistake is the decider.

Unfortunately it's a matter of degrees as i remember exactly where i was and who i was with for each of them - and they each have their own special pain.

I'd rather get DQed from the tournament because I was up all night partying!

Hookers and blow beat buzzer-beaters OR blow-outs!!!
