Title: OT - Greg Gard, Legend
Post by: The Lens on March 18, 2016, 09:24:08 PM
With tonight's win over Pitt, Greg Gard is now tied with The Legend, Stew Morrill with 1 NCAA win.  If Bucky knocks off X, then Greg Gard will have TWICE as many NCAA wins as The Legend, Stew Morrill.

Let THAT marinate!

X will take Bucky apart. Piece by piece.

Gard's already ahead of legendary coach Jim Phelan, 800 wins, but 0-2 in the DI national tournament.  Two more wins and he will tie Pete Carril, legendary Princeton coach.

A few legendary coaches out there on the radar with low NCAA tournament win totals...good for Gard catching one his first time out.

Screw bucky. What really is galling is that bucky and no dick have first round wins while we have our hands checking to see what happened to our gonads.

Bucky will win on Sunday. This season has been so dissalointing that somehow buckys worst team goes to regional semis

When I think of coaching legends, Jim Phelan is right between John Wooden and Coach K. Of course your boy Stewie tops the list.

They might.  They won yesterday with their two best players doing nothing.  They might also get blown out of the gym.

A few guys here taking pot shots because I said Stew Morrill is a legendary coach....which he is and referred to in that regard many times.  I've provided probably 100 links or more from the media, other coaches, etc, that characterize him that way.

Some guys don't understand that you can be a legendary coach at smaller schools...like a Carrill,  Morrill, Phelan without being in the national spotlight.
two of the three are in the basketball hall of fame, Morrill will be as well.  Between all of them, they have 4 NCAA wins.

Got it, thanks.  I appreciate an old joke that never dies, glad it's not serious in the 'Gard is a legend' context.

I do agree that there are many ways to define what constitutes a 'legend' in any field - including dedicating your career at a lower level.

One more NCAA tournament win to catch legend, Pete Carril.

Fun fact: Gard has defeated a team with a better seed in his first tournament appearance.  Bo didn't do that until his ninth.  If Bucky beats ND in the most miserable tournament game ever, he will have as many wins over better seeded teams as Bo did during his 15 years in Madison.

All in good fun JD!   What good is the Internet if you can't troll with a 7 year old "Legend" Meme.   It's one of my favorite running scoop gags.

Makes you wonder: Would Bo have been able to do this?

I don't think so.
