MTSU 62

Plenty of ill will towards Pitt (but not Dixon). Don't forget how they pushed to turn down the old BE deal with ESPN, then ended up being the primary destroyer of the conference when they ran off to the ACC. Eff Pitt and the slagwagon they came in on.
Msu losing is huge in my bracket. Everyone has them in the final 4. I have them losing 2nd round to Syracuse

Yes, because there is no better way to judge a conference than by one game performances. That is why the Horizon League was the 2nd best conference in all the land back to back when Butler went to the Finals. :D
The NCAA tournament has always been about matchups and if you have an off day, it's all over. MSU, 10 times they play MTSU, they win 9 times.
Just for giggles, in the last 25 years these guys have lost in the first round...and more than once
Coach K...four times
Coach Boeheim four times (also failed to make the tournament five times in that span)
Coach Izzo....five times
Coach Ryan....three times
Coach Knight ....six times
Coach Pitino....three times
Coach Olson....three times
Etc, etc.
They all also made great runs, but as good as a coach can be, in the end, players play.
It can happen to anyone.

You're not wrong, of course. But it doesn't change the fact that 90% of Americans only watch college basketball during the NCAA tournament. These single games mean a lot for the perception of schools by the wider public.

I've said it for a long time. The Big10 is way way over-rated this year. People were harping on how much better UW got, compared to our improvement...not comparable.
They were playing in a very over-rated Big10. Purdue/MSU/Maryland were not these goliaths people assumed they were. UW just played in a weaker conference.
Individual games are not crapshoots. Individual games still rate who is best on that day, in that gym. When several of the league heavyweights all get beat in an individual game (i.e. Purdue/MSU) it strongly suggests the league was over-rated. If only 1 team lost, maybe its a fluke, but not when all the teams are struggling.

Agreed. Individual games are a crap shoot, no doubt. But the PAC-12 1-5 start is very telling. They were the upper seed in every one of the games yet went 1-5. And only one of those was a 8-9 game so they were the clear favorite.
The PAC-12 was overrated this year.

That's the point. The NCAA and the RPI (of the top teams) over-rated the Big10. Teams like Monmouth would have finished top 4 in the Big10 and been locks for the tournament.
Based on perceived reputation more teams got into the NCAA than should have. They got more respect than their 5th best conference rating.

Monmouth would have finished in the top 4 in the Big Ten? Come on Forgetful, you say insane stuff on the other board, but this is ridiculous. I like Monmouth, but they couldn't beat Army....or Canisius, lost to Iona twice, lost to Manhattan. You think they are going to beat MSU, UW, IU, OSU, UM, Maryland, etc, on the road? Very unlikely. Yup, that's more like it...the bottom of the Big Ten was really bad. RPI would also have them as 8th best, just barely ahead of Ohio State.....which went to the NIT....which is where Ohio State is.
I also wonder how Monmouth would handle the physicality of the Big Ten, night in and night out vs what they play against now.

Dammit Brandx. I was in first until you joined.
Wow. Impressive.
I went to the games in OKC yesterday (not staying for the Sunday games). Two observations...VCU has the reincarnate of Jae Crowder on their team and it reminded me of how much we missed a beastly presence like that this year. VCU is also going to give OU all they can handle if OU continues to play loose with the ball and miss their free throws. (Gary Payton's kid was also amazing in that game for Oregon State).
Secondly, the last second shot by Jesperson saved a nearly unwatchable game. While VCU/Oregon State had beautiful flow this game was absolutely ruined by the officiating crew who is notorious for averaging 40 fouls called per game. I'm pretty sure they hit that mark and then some in this game....literally every minor contact was called a foul. With the added TV timeouts for the tournament and play stopping every 30 seconds for a foul...it was hard to stomach. While the madness of a last second shot and upsets (and great play like in the VCU/OSU) are what makes college hoops great....the way it is being officiated and the rules can render it unwatchable if called a certain way. Wasn't there an MU game this year with more than 50 fouls called????? 50??? Let the guys play basketball and stop this nonsense.

It's ok, you could just admit your statement was wrong and absurd. Wisconsin has played very good ball the last 2 months, and it isn't because they were just "beating up each other" in the Big Ten.
