OK, forgive me in advance. I am Fairly new at this but I know this post is a massive waste of brainpower.
What seed do you think Marquette would get IF it did sweep the Big East Tourney and get in? Providing of course that a large meteor doesn't hit the earth and wipe all life from the planet first ... or hell freezes over ... or Sanders becomes President ... or the Cubs win the Series. :o
Isn't there a 12-seed play-in at the Dayton Hunger Games on the Tuesday before? I think MU would be a good fit for that.

If Marquette managed to do that, they wouldn't be in a play-in game. The play in games are reserved for the final four at large teams (last year all 11 seeds), and the worst conference champions (all 16 seeds).
My guess is Marquette would end up at something like a 12 seed...maybe push up to a 10 given they would have to likely beat both X and Nova to get there.
2011 team was something like 20-13 in the regular season and got an 11 seed. They also played in a BEAST conference that placed 11(!) teams in the tourney that year.
If by some chance we get there, we're likely an 11 or 12.
Lowest I can remember a major conference team being seeded was a sub-500 Georgia squad that ran the SEC tourney table and got a 14 seed about 5 years ago.

Thanks, makes sense they would have some method to that part of the Madness.
So we will be a 12 seed. Nice. ::)

12 vs. 5 is upset special!!!!!!!!
If the lottery numbers come through and MU wins the Big East tourney..... Marquette is 1-1 against the Big 1G. Both teams are likely to make the tourney. Marquette has shown it can compete with X, who, after MU beats them, is a likely 3 seed. If MU beats 'Nova, MU will have shown it can beat a likely 2 seed. MU has beaten Providence twice. So, I would say MU will be that 10-11 seed that either gets rolled or gets on a roll, depending on matchups.
OK, as long as we're having fun ...
When we get in as an 11 seed, how much will we beat 6th-seeded Utah by?
I'm thinking 3 ... but wait ... yes ... Henry goes to the line to clinch it ... makes the first but misses the second.
So it's Marquette 78, Utah 74.

Obviously, followed by a big win against 3-seed Duke in which the basketball world says to itself, "Wojo beat Duke? Suddenly my 20 years of hating him are gone. Go Marquette!"

When this happens does Wojo instinctively run across the court and attempt to jump into K's arms - only to have K punch him in the face?

11, 12 & 13 are much better than the 7, 8, 9 and 10. Anytime you don't have to play a 1 or 2 in the first 2 rounds is good draw.

The real question is what color uniform do we wear in the first round, and which TV station are we put on? Can't answer whether we win or not until we know jersey color and station.

If we beat St. John's, Xavier, Creighton, and Villanova, I think we're looking at a 12 or 13 seed. That'd give us an 80 RPI. Still not good enough to be at-large, so it seems likely we'd be seeded below the lowest at-large teams. Wouldn't surprise me to see us as low as a 14 seed. Have to say, though, if I were a 3-seed and I drew Marquette in the first round, I'd be pretty disappointed.
Also...quite a few people seem to be saying we'll be in the NIT if we beat St. John's. Beat them and lose to Xavier and we're looking at a 105 RPI. Maybe we get in if there aren't too many bid thieves, but my guess is we'd have to accept a bid to Vegas or the CBI to keep our season going if we aren't playing on Friday.

11 or 12 seed if we run the table
The reality, as it has been for a looooong time, is that we're hoping for an NIT bid. DO WORK.

Not a chance that the committee gives a double-digit seed to a major conference tournament champion.
9 or 8 seed, easy.

My guess is we would be that 12-seed that everyone would be picking when the bracket came out.
But yes, NIT is the reality, and we have to do work to get in. Two wins might be enough, one probably won't be. Sadly, it would take three wins to truly lock us into the NIT. My money is on us accepting a bid to the Vegas 16.

We differ just a little. I think two wins NIT locks us. My actual prediction is that we win tonight but lose a tough one tomorrow. It'll be close but I'm guessing Vegas. I hope they decide to go if that's their best option.

I agree. Even if we somehow miss Vegas and get a CBI opportunity, I think it'd be worth paying to play a few extra games. We can use the money we saved on our non-conference buy games.
