ok, so the UC system is waging a strong battle to restore it's reputation-i wonder who is next on MU's hit list to maintain their "good standing" with their peers.  it will be tough to beat some of these other schools however.  lovell will have his work cut out for himself, but with his strong background and training within the UW system, he will probably not disappoint.  damn, if they just could have handled that shakur mural a little differently, they might have been able to move up a few notches

Three (four?) are public schools.

Those are the more unfortunate ones.

Private and religious schools have at least some guidelines to adhere to per their mission statement, purpose, etc. but you'd think the public universities would allow much more than a private or religious institution.

They should have created a "Safe Space" for the professor

"But that was only the beginning. In public statements the university repeatedly insinuated, without any evidence, that McAdams had violated Marquette's harassment policy, labeled him a threat to safety, and effectively held him directly responsible for the comments and actions of his readers -- a position wildly opposed to basic free speech principles."

That statement is false on many levels.

There was evidence that he violated MU's harassment policy.  The action of his readers weren't the issue.  His actions were.  But McAdams seems to want to create his own truths about this issue.

The "foundation" that put this ranking together is a joke.

They use a scale of Red/Yellow/Green light to state how they view a school's policies. For real. Like we're children and need some simple symbol to asses how free a school's speech is. Oh, and the "scale" they use isn't driven by any metric. Just their subjectivity.

https://www.thefire.org/spotlight/using-the-spotlight-database/

Marquette scored a red light (gasp)... meanwhile the ENTIRE rest of the state of Wisconsin scored a red or yellow. No greens.

Finally, saw this gem today.

http://host.madison.com/wsj/news/local/govt-and-politics/rebecca-bradley-apologizes-for-student-columns-calling-aids-patients-degenerates/article_7c9210e9-1250-597b-92db-feaf904afa7a.html

This strikes me as about as free of speech as I can imagine. Seriously, most likely MULTIPLE people at Marquette gave THAT article a thumbs up.

In short, this trash at best, and more likely, flaming trash at worst.

When the libs on this board do the same for CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, NYTimes, HuffPost, etc, I'll be happy to do the same....

I was referring to the source of the "data" / ranking, not the media publisher
