Here's a thread to discuss all the goings-on in the conference tournaments.
To start it off with a Marquette tie-in, Stetson, a 7 seed, beat NJIT, a 2 seed in the first round of the Atlantic Sun tournament last night.
MVC should be a good one to watch. Lot of good teams in that cinference.
Let's root for #1 seeds to win their conference tourneys. Fingers crossed

And Stetson is ineligible for the NCAA Tournament. And they play #6 seed Lipscomb in the semifinals after Lipscomb upset Jacksonville.
If Stetson beats Lipscomb, whoever they play in the final will automatically go to the tournament. Kind of odd to let Stetson play in the confernce tournament when they are ineligible for postseason.
Also, NJIT transitioned to D1 in 2007. They were independent until 2009, when they joined the Great West. But the Great West did not get an auto bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Great West disbanded and NJIT was once again independent. They finally got into the Atlantic Sun this year, so it was their first real chance at an NCAA Tournament.
After 9 years of waiting they finally play in their first NCAA conference tournament game. They lose to the #7 seed, Stetson. Ouch.
Maine got smashed in the first round of the America East tournament by Vermont. I want to see one of our bad non-con wins bust out some victories this week.
NJIT got into the Atlantic Sun when Northern Kentucky went to the Horizon when Loyola went to the MVC when Creighton went to the BE.
Atlantic sun champion North Florida lost, but Stetson is still alive in the final. If Stetson wins the final then North Florida still gets the auto bid by winning the ASun regular season.
Brian Wardle's Bradley bows out to Loyola Chicago in a game that lived up to everything you'd expect from the 8/9 game in the MVC tournament.

Go Stetson! They do that instead of the losing team in the final going?

I get the pay raise, but man I wish he was still at UWGB. What a brutal season. Hope he rebounds with his own players

According to Twitter, yes.

I was thinking the same thing.
What a disaster of a season. And the Bradley fans aren't the most patient lot. They think they should be NCAA contenders every year.
My dad, his friends and I do this really fun conference tournament bracket every year. It's only $9. We fill out brackets fire all the power 6 conferences, the AAC and one of our choosing. (MVC this year) Each bracket is $1 with the overall total being the extra $1. Winner of each bracket collects all the money for that designated tournament. Looking to keep my winning streak of 3 straight Big 12 tournaments alive and well.

So that helps our RPI, right?
#9 seed Holy Cross upset #1 seed Bucknell. Bucknell will now have an autobid to the NIT

I'm not a Wardle fan by any respect, but he deserve a big time pass for this season. It was a disaster before it even started with players leaving and no one left to take their place. He is going to need a few years just to get things going. Marginal improvement.
Not only did North Florida lose as the #1 seed, but they were completely destroyed, 89-56.
The culprit....Florida Gulf Coast. I don't know a single thing about their team this year, but I can never hear that name without imagining a legion of dunking white guys.

Anyone else here participate in The Jerome? It's a conference tournament prediction contest that started out among sportswriters in the early 90s. I think I learned about it from some ESPN writer on Twitter years ago. It's only for fun and bragging rights, but I'll admit that it's pretty cool to see how I stack up against people who cover the sport for a living (Goodman, Norlander, Forde, O'Neill, etc.)

Too late to join? Does it include the low majors?

It includes everything, so unfortunately you're too late for the contest this year. The first set of picks were due early this week. I suppose you could just do part 2 (the tournaments that start next week.) Link is on https://twitter.com/sendit_interns. You can also email thejeromelives at gmail to get on the list for next year.
A friend of mine runs a conference tournament contest for all 31 conferences. You get bonus points for 3 seeds or lower, so there's some advantage to going against chalk. But it's crazy picking conference winners for the Summit, Sun Belt, MAAC, MEAC, etc.
The contest only works because he provides daily updates on the various tournaments and keeps a detailed spreadsheet. However, it's a lot of fun and ramps up my interest.

Jerome is basically the same. You pick one team per conference. Two points if you make the final and lose. Five points if you win it. A bonus two points if you win the championship but are seeded 3 or worse (exception is if that team was tourney host.)

What is going on this year? It's not just that the conference leaders are losing, they are losing to BAD teams....doesn't make any sense
A conspiracy against MU...They are trying to make sure we do not get into the post season again

What did you see in this matchup? Asking to get brushed up on teams that I'll be betting on in a couple weeks.
You'd think Wichita would get in either way, but you look at their schedule...
Best win is Utah. After that UNLV? Seriously.
Losses to Alabama, USC, Tulsa, Seton Hall, Iowa, North Iowa, Illinois State and now maybe Loyola? I dunno.....
How Wichita State is 8 in Kem Pom is unbelievable to me. I mean, LOOK AT THAT SCHEDULE!

Honestly not much. I just know its hard to beat a team three times in one season, conference tournament games always seem to be a lot closer than expected, and the 18.5 point spread was extremely generous. Oh, and Wichita State isn't that good.
Looks like they'll pull it out tho.

Now they play UNI, who is no stranger to a big game. Gotta hope the Wheat Shockers pull it out.

Too bad. I would have preferred him to Damion Lee had he gone the grad transfer route. Different decisions on how to get to the Big Dance, but quite a few kids missing out. Nature of the beast.
Yale is in. First time in like 50 years I think.
UNC Asheville in the tournament. I wonder if Rowsey has second thoughts about leaving them.

No system is perfect, but I like the RPI's rating of WSU way more than Ken Pom

I only watched the last 4 min and OT and the takeaway I got was surprise that Stestson was even in that game to begin with based on how the teams looked.
Syracuse and Pitt tied with a minute and half.
Syracuse not up to their lofty standards this year. I haven't followed them much this year. Any story here or just a down year?

Boeheim was suspended for the first 9 ACC games of the season (bc Cuse didn't have the stones to fire him). Cuse also lost some scholarships but I'm not sure if that has started yet.

It has. That's how Thomas Bryant ended up at Indiana.
