Title: On This Day
Post by: Oldgym on February 25, 2016, 09:43:26 AM
Seven years ago today I thought the roof would blow off the BC with #8 MU hosting #2 UConn.  Looking forward to a night like that again, minus Dominic James' uncooperative metatarsal, and I'm confident we'll see one in the next couple years.

I think we should turn this into a montage of best BC atmospheres to give people a little encouragement for Sat.  Here is my favorite - Feb-2006.

"Pittsburgh never found a rhythm in trying to get physical with Marquette in front of 19,007, the largest crowd ever to see a college game in Wisconsin."

I will never forget sitting behind the Pitt bench and watching Levon Kendall wave Jamie Dixon off as Dixon is screaming at him to get on Kinsella on the perimeter.  Kinsella proceeded to drop a few 3s.  After that I got to watch Dixon and Kendall get into a shouting match on the sideline and Kendall get benched for a while.  Great game and incredible atmosphere.  If memory serves, our 2 unlikely heroes that night were Kinsella and Cubillan.

Also a great atmosphere - the 07 game -- I typed the wrong year initially in my post above -- fixed.

That was my freshman year. I think the only game I missed that year (outside of winter break). I still vividly remember having a Calc test the next day that I had no prayer on. I should've just gone to the game - I was doomed either way.

Couldn't believe I didn't go to the game afterwards.  Don't think I missed another one the rest of my college career.

Syracuse 2013. Davante dominated, but the place went up for grabs when Jake Thomas hit the and-1 three for his only 4 points of the game, in the middle of a great first half comeback. Kid in the row behind me jumped on my back, I spilled beer on the kid in front of me. None of us cared. Loudest I heard the place in my 4 years.

Me and my brother had a love affair similiar to what we have with Wally. When he drained that 3 and the crowd went nuts. Turned to the guy on my left who hated Thomas, and said the loudest 4 letter word followed by you. But the most memorable part of that game was when Davante had the ball at the top of the key, looked around 4 times then buried the 19 footer.

That game was wild. MU had a huge scoring drought in each half, but still managed to pull it out. Mayo hit a deep 3 from the wing with the shot clock running down that helped give them some late separation.

I wanna say the crowd was around 16,500 for that game. Not even a sellout, but loud as hell.

March 2010 Al's Night.  -- Weeknight game.  We maul Louisville to lock in a likely NCAA Tournament bid.  Had Louisville on the ropes all night, but this DJO dunk sat Pitino down for the rest of the night, brought the house down and made Buzz do weird things.  I think this is also the game where Buzz said that the whole team was growing their hair out to protect their brains so they don't forget how to play smart.

Best MU game atmospheres ever:
   1) That National Championship game in the basement of the old Brooks Memorial Union
   2) The National Semi_Final game against UNCC (we were 2-0 against North Carolina teams that year)
   3) The DWade vs. Kentucky Regional Final in 2003 at the Hump in MSP.
   4) Anytime we beat Notre Dame at home!

Novak from just outside the monogram in the heat-checkiest heat check off all time against UCONN in our welcome to the BigEAST game.

Student section sounded like a jet engine.

Yes, this game.  This was my favorite, though it actually doesn't line up with the pic.  The game you are referring to is the year after Novak left.

The Pitt game where Kinsella was draining 3's was nuts.  Earlier that day is when we hosted GameDay, so it was a super long day of drinking, this being my sophomore year.

I remember then sitting in the student section and watching warmups when my buddy next to me sarcastically said during the shootaround "Kinsella is on fire, he's going to tear it up."

Kinsella proceeded to drop 3 3's and the "removable" portion of the stands we were in I thought were going to collapse.

That Pittsburgh gameday... up 28 at half.  My wife turns to me and says, "Why are we staying? That other team stinks."

Like vs Cincinnati and K- State, da Warriors were losing at halftime. Butch and Bo, along with BT closed da deal in da second half. Bernard was named the Chevrolet Player of the Game. MU got a grand or two in his name for dat honor. Toone thought he should have gotten da bread, ai na?
On ta ATL, hey?

After I posted, I realized I forgot about Wake. I knew some intellectual, facts-must-be-correct engineer would remember that!

LOL.

BT was a stud in the Wake game. He had awesome second half. Biggest surprise in that run was play of Dudley against KState IMO.

Championship run in 1977.  That is all.

Anybody to young missed something.  I hope y'all have a chance to experience one.

Not a home game moment but one of my favorites has to be when we were playing in the tournament against Davidson. I was in Vegas with a buddy and met some other Marquette fans from scoop I believe and started ripping shots when I thought we were going to lose (not that we didn't already start drinking first thing that am and needed anymore) but we slammed a few rounds of fireball shots and then went berserk when vander came up huge. Did plenty more after that. Still can't remember anyone's names from that day or even what bar it was. All I know is that is was nowhere near the strip but can remember everyone's faces and reactions that day. Other than that, don't remember a thing.
