Apparently they are not that famous. Never heard of Stetson either. Hopefully we can keep the turnovers to under 15.

oliver lee, an MU b-ball recruit and player 1977-78 thru 1980-81 was from deland, florida.  not one of our most

stellar.  probably an under-achiever, but did average over 17 ppg his senior year.  showed steady progress. ranked

#41 greatest MU players by cracked sidewalks. that's interesting ?-(

drafted by the chicago bulls in the 4th round (84th overall).  i don't know what kind of career he had in the nba,

but if i had to guess....well at least he was drafted-heyna.

Oliver had his share of run-ins with the legal system back in the day.
And that doesn't include the time Majerus brought in some former players to scrimmage and Lee showed his gratitude by pilfering anything that had value in the locker room.

But it sounds like Lee "may" have made a change as he mentored his young nephew back in the early 90's.  Playing a big role in the development of the future "Vinsanity", Vince Carter.

OLee was a special talent. Was an underachiever in a big way, but was very gifted. Silky shooter and great one handed rebounder. He definitely was a showboat.

Stetson was a basketball independent that Marquette used to play against occasionally.  Jacksonville too.

i could be wrong, but didn't they start playing stetson when they recruited Oliver lee?  incentive to bring in family or to broadcast back home?  i guess i could look back at their schedule, but...

That was my vague recollection as well, and I checked to confirm.  I started looking at 1970, and the first season we played them was 1978-79...Lee's sophomore season.

My roommate at Univ of Madrid was a Stetson Hatter, Oscar Delgado.

That year,  I learned Spanish, Stetson, and all things Miami/Cuban ex-pat culture.

He is an attorney in Miami...maybe not famous, but a highly valued friend/great guy

My roommate....the one I knew...Oscar was born in Hialeah, grad of a Miami HS,and..... Grad of Stetson undergrad, ie a Hatter.

The only MU in him is if you reverse his law school initials...he went to Univ of Miami Law.

Does he have same name as someone you and Rocket know?

Sorry for the confusion.  I vaguely knew a guy named Oscar-through friends-almost positive his last name was Delgado. It would have been around 1979-81ish. Not sure what became of him, but when you brought him up, it rekindled some memories

I remember Oscar dressed up in a cheesy white disco suit for Halloween. I asked what that was supposed to be and he said he was a gigolo. He fancied himself a ladies man.

My wife had several classes with him and I remember her telling me he became a journalist and interviewed Castro and Saddam Hussein.

Ok I am relieved, too.

Y'all know a different Oscar than my Oscar....for sure...how so?

My Oscar's grandfather was a Cabinet Secretary and close crony of Gen. Fulgencio Batista,  who was overthrown by Castro.

His family and Castro never have been on speaking terms. lol
