Title: Have a game Jimmy!
Post by: MUVander on January 14, 2016, 08:27:46 PM
Jimmy has 50 points in a game vs the Sixers right now, coming down to the end in a very close game

What a game for Jimmy tonight.  He has taken over the Bulls.  Interesting blog post on just that topic a few days ago:

Yeah, some of their stuff is annoying, but that post was pretty good.  They certainly have their favorites as well as axes to grind.

That franchise is a mess. Hoiberg isn't working out at all and Jimmy has been a divisive force in the locker room. They need to get rid of Rose since it looks like they've hitched their wagons to JFB. The problem is last year, management pretty much declared it was okay to give up on Thibs and the season halfway through, which has led the players to think they can give up on Hoiberg this year. Signing Jimmy to a big deal and getting rid of the coach that made him what he is was a bad combination. Just lots of problems in Chicago and not many answers.

Hell, just name Jimmy the player coach.

The Bulls "hitched their wagon" to Jimmy because he's their best (and one of the NBA's best) players. On both sides of the ball. Derrick Rose is a below average NBA starting point guard. Add to that Jimmy has the heart of a lion and injuries have turned Rose into a lamb.

Thibs (and Buzz) PLAYED A PART in making JFB what he is but to say he made him is wrong - Jimmy gets most of the credit for that.

The Bulls need to rid themselves of Rose because he cant play anymore. Ditto for Noah. And, unfortunately both think they are still stars, which is the Bulls biggest problem. Especially Rose. I keep reading about coaching and effort, but that misses the Bulls biggest issue. The team, outside of Butler, is a bunch of has-beens (that includes Gasol) and unproven young guys.

Also, don't read too much into Butler comments on Hoiberg. While there is some frustration there, the biggest issue is with Rose. Which Butler can't come out and say.

Where did I say otherwise regarding Rose? The problems are multiple, but Jimmy's attempts to lead while making constant passive aggressive comments to the press are making things worse.

Don't get me wrong, Bulls management created this situation, but it seems every time the Bulls struggle, Jimmy is taking blatant swipes at Rose or Hoiberg. Yes, Rose sucks (arguably the worst starting PG in the league) but tossing a bus on him repeatedly just looks petty at this point.

Jimmy's great on the court, but it's tough transitioning from the humble, "oh shucks" public persona to the "this is MY team" persona in one offseason. I absolutely love him as a player, but it feels like he's trying to channel Jordan and he hasn't earned that yet. I'm not sure he'll be able to with GarPax running things either.

For comparison, Michael Jordan had 38 50+ point games for the Bulls. Two other Bulls players had one 50+ point game.

38. That's crazy. MJ was pretty good at basketball.

Wilt Chamberlain averaged 50.4 ppg for an entire season.  He, also, was pretty good at basketball.

I literally laughed out loud.  He makes $13+ Million?!!  I'd be embarrassed if my 12-year-old daughter shot like that.

Suddenly realizing Noah can't shoot makes it seem like you haven't seen a Bulls game in 8 years.  Also, Noah didn't just accidentally win defensive player of the year or accidentally finish in the top 5 in MVP voting. He was dominant at his role for a good period of time.
I agree that Rose is not the same player he was. Not even close.  The reason everybody is so annoyed is his contract. If he had an Aaron Brooks contract nobody would be complaining.  He is eating up a lot of the money though, and it's tough to watch him play at times.
McDermott is fine. He's basically a rookie after not playing last year.  He is playing the old Jimmy role of being opposite of ball side on every possession.  His defense is improving (had some pretty good defensive possessions down the stretch last night if you watched the entire game.)
The Bulls team is fine.  I'm not sure what everybody expects of a team that has most of it's money tied up in oft injured veterans like Rose, Noah and Dunleavy.  Did you think they'd be fighting with Cleveland for the conference title??? Look at the teams that they have similar records to and tell me that they should be any better them.  The three closest are the Raptors, Hawks and Clippers. Look at those teams rosters and tell me you expect the Bulls to be blowing them all away.

People don't care about Rose's contract. The problem is his attitude and the perception that he is not willing to push himself when  injured. He's never gotten over the playoffs of a couple years ago when all reports said he was ready but he later claimed to be looking out for his future earning potential.

I believe, within the locker room, that Rose's very presence is cancerous. He's an entitled baby.

Also, it appears Hoiberg was a pretty significant mistake. I think they thought they were getting Steve Kerr 2.0 but Hoiberg has never had a fraction of Kerr's personality. Kerr is more like Doc Rivers.

That's not too far from being accurate.  I've seen a few, but I don't recall ever seeing him set up for a jump shot and shoot like that.

He actually used to take a lot more of those, and he'd make a fair number.  They are essentially free throws because he was always unguarded, and he's a 71% free throw shooter.  It definitely hurts the offense at times (I fight the urge to say this, but similar to MU's Derrick) in that the D just sits back.

I will agree with you on much of that.  His attitude certainly does have a huge impact in why fans don't like him.   Contract doesn't help though.

How about at media day before this season, when, without even being asked about it, Rose brought up his potential free agency in TWO YEARS ... and said THAT was his focus?

As Tony Soprano woulda said: "Can you believe da balls on dat guy?"

Derrick Rose is not an intelligent individual (yeah I know - this just in). He is a dope, and the peeps who handle him are dopes. Put that together with his salary, his injuries and the fact that he has become a mediocre basketball player, and he has gone from Chicago Sports Hero to pariah in just a couple of years.

It's been an amazing fall.

This.

When Rose was a player it was easier to put up with brother Reggie, the gang signs and all the rest. This isn't his team anymore and it shouldn't be.

I have no problem with Jimmy calling out his teammates or his coach  - Thibs is gone, so somebody has to do it. If everybody had JFB's work ethic the Bulls would be a far better team.

I thought the exact same thing on one of JFB's steals in that Sixers game.  Everyone is looking down and out (idk which quarter it was), and then Jimmy lunges forward and takes it.

Go 50 seconds into the Jimmy highlights that were just posted. Almost literally the same exact situation and Noah swishes it. Crazy how it can be net and airball, same situation, same night.

I'm very bad at basketball.

My stroke looks so much better than his. It's brutal watching him shoot!
