Title: Georgetown game thread
Post by: Norm on January 02, 2016, 05:17:03 PM
GU is bigger and thicker at almost every position than MU. The Warriors are skinny compared to GU.

They also play harder, smarter, and are better at basketball. A lot to overcome.

And quicker too. I am shocked at how many times MU players have run into each other, especially on defense, but also on offense.

Wow. We are just bad. 4-14 again is actually highly possible

This is ugly. We have more talent than last year but the same issues. We are soft, defensive breakdowns, and don't play all that smart. We look like the team that is getting out worked consistently.

Welcome to the Big East and the road.

Can we switch to zone defense and tell Fischer he's only allowed to shoot if he is facing the basket???

We seem to be shooting about 30% on shots within 2 feet of the bucket.

We are definitely soft inside, both Fischer and Ellenson. Ellenson is not ready for the show yet. He forces way too much, and his interior defense is way below average. If we are hanging our hat on our bigs inside this year, we have quite a ways to go.

What we got right now is not competitive in the Big East. People know it - it's halftime and there are half a dozen entries in the game thread.
On the positive side TC looks decent. Luke can't finish with BE contact defense.
Wish Cheat 'em and Chief (who did, I gotta admit, have a nice assist) could have made the trip.
Offense is stagnant, defense is deplorable. BOOB plays have resulted in about an 8-pt. swing. Again, (have not checked the stats) it seems opponents get rebounds that should have been ours.
Inexperience, inexperience, inexperience. My hope at this stage is that we can have a couple of good showings later in the season.

agreed, and we need to put a body on the defensive boards they're killing us.

Big questions now are...can we beat depaul and stj at home...can we steal a game or two otherwise when someone has an off night. Basically can we go 4-14?  Can we finish 500?

The coaches bear responsibility for this .

Really? Talent can shoot the 12 foot jumper, finish a bank shot and play defense. Your right Chicos, HE can't handle Big East play. Even when he gets an open look he can't hit from the outside. Certainly not ready for the NBA. However if a team wants to pay big bucks for potential it's their money. We're not a young team, just lousy. They don't believe they can win.

The blame goes squarely on the coaching staff.

Wow!! Not even two pages deep and its second half. Most depressing game thread ever. Apathy has set in.

We still don't seem to have a vocal leader on the team. Duane is stepping up with his play this year, but I wish he'd get after the guys a little more.

Here in person, Henry is not remotely ready for the NBA.

Heck, Walky has more energy than anyone else on the team.

I hope he stays a year. His numbers were certainly amazing in the first half against inferior competition, but now has faltered against the big east teams.

I dont want to ever hear homer say again..."ellenson shoots 29 pct from three but we know he's better than that..."

If he's better than that then let him prove it.

Faulting homer not henry

IIRC, he didn't shoot the three at a high percentage in HS either.

Some good fight shown at the end here.  Positive signs after that first half.  Georgetown has talent and if you don't give 40 min you won't win on the road.  Still, the best half of BEast basketball so far.

Glad Marquette gave Wojo that extension.  Back to back double digit losses to unranked teams.   I long for the days when Marquette had a good basketball coach.

The blame goes squarely on the coaching staff.

I understand and agree the coaches have ultimate responsibility, but the players simply don't execute.  Wojo implored them to move the ball and Fischer gets it, holds it and then misses a point blank shot.  Duane chucking ridiculous shots and a general lack of ability to hit FT's.  I'm sure all of these topics are addressed.  At some point it's up to the players to play well.

Please don't come back once they start winning again.
