Looks like Jamil Wilson having a solid season in the D League. Playing for the Texas Legends. Showing an improvement over last year.

Lets hope he gets called up.
Man, if anyone should get a look it would be Jamil. The guy has all of the tools to make it in the show. Let' see if he can put it all together in a way he never did at Marquette.

Jamil was one of the nicest young men ever to wear an MU uniform. Smart, too. For whatever reason (too nice?) the whole was never as good as the sum of the parts.
Jamil can punch his ticket to the NBA by proving he can be a factor from 3-point range.
He lacks lateral quickness. And during his MU days he was neither a good decision-maker, nor was he mentally or physically tough enough. The NBA frowns upon all of that ... but if he could shoot 40% from 3-point range he'd probably at least get a good look from some team.
The Association is looking for guys who can help space the floor and play multiple positions.

Switchables. Buzz was ahead of the curve.

His stats presently reflect a 35.1 % rate. I think he is showing a complete game in the D League and is growing as a player.

35% from 3 shows there's a chance he can keep improving and maybe impress somebody from the NBA. Obviously, he hasn't yet.

If he keeps working hard on his shot and demonstrates some strength on defense an opportunity will eventually come around.

Baby Buzz was drawing this up before the days of Magic, Pippen, Paul Pressey, etc.

Back in the day there were 6 or 7 in the league - Buzz wanted 6 or 7 on his team.

I can't argue with that, Lenny.
I'd love to see Jamil get a shot in the NBA, but I just don't see it happening. For most of these fringe-NBA/D-league guys to get called up, they need to have a specialty - something that they do at an NBA level - whether that's 3-point shooting, ball-handling, shot-blocking or even just taking up space. Jamil does a lot of things well, but he doesn't have that one thing that's going to get him to the next level. The same holds true for Vander and Jerel. They may get a shot, but I don't see any of them sticking for any extended period of time.

Right. It's not as though Vander or Jamil are unknown quantities at this point. They have been out for 2+ and 1+ years respectively. Vander even put up a 30 point game a week ago. But he doesn't handle well enough...or shoot well enough...and isn't tall enough.

I'm not sure I see the marked improvement. ORtg last year was 108; assist rate 15%, turnover 10.7%, DR% 17%... this season 101, 11%, 13.9%, 16%
2FG% is up a bit due largely to more shots taken inside the restricted area (44% vs. 40%)...

That was a problem. Recruiting another switchable over a lower ranked big in the long run made the team imbalanced. The trouble is that Wojo seems to be the same way. The only difference is he is looking for 6'6"- 6-7" shooters instead of so called switchable.

I am confused by your Wojo comment - this is the most balanced team we have had in recent memory - bigs - a true pg - some switchables

With two shooters on the way in Rowsey and Hauser.
The only thing I'd add to this roster is another PF, but they tried to snag a transfer or two and it didn't work out.

I think bilsu is looking a year (or more likely two) down the road. Here's what we have slated for the 2017-18 season, assuming everyone graduates as planned and Henry declares for the draft no later than the end of his sophomore year:
PG: Traci Carter
SG: Duane Wilson, Andrew Rowsey, Haanif Cheatham
SF: Sandy Cohen, Sacar Anim, Sam Hauser
PF: None
C: Matt Heldt
Now granted, that is only 8 scholarship players, and we should still be expecting Bailey to arrive in 2018, but that's a ton of slashers and shooters and not a ton of distributors or big men.
Looking at that roster, I would love to see Markus Howard and Theo John in blue and gold, among others.
Fair enough. I am also hoping/assuming a big and pg are future targets.

Those 2 plus the potential of Joey Hauser a few years out (in the mold of Hank at the 4) and the possibility of the 2 brothers (or at least one of them) that were visiting at our last game and I think Wojo is going to fill the rest of the roster very nicely.
I also think we see Wojo active in the transfer market this offseason. If I had to bet it would be for a big. Rowsey is more than capable of playing extended minutes at the 1, and having a true point guard (Carter) starting with a scoring point (Rowsey) backing him up and playing with some of the 2nd team guys will be really valuable, plus Rowsey will see minutes at the 2, and Cheatham minutes at the 3.
Not even a little concerned at this point. Many scholarships still available.

Also not concerned yet. The roster is fine for this year and next, and there are plenty of targets for 2017 that fit needs. Just addressing why bilsu may have said what he did. We do have a ton of 2/3 type players committed.

Isn't it obvious? Wojo will land a McD's AA PF/C brother tandem. Problem solved.
