Title: Young boxer dies in pro debut
Post by: Galway Eagle on December 23, 2015, 02:56:30 PM
Reminding all of you who have children that may want to try Boxing, Muay Thai or MMA that it is truly a dangerous sport even once.

RIP to a true warrior this hits home because I'll be making my debut soon after golden gloves this year.

I used to really like boxing but I can't watch it any more. And definitely can't watch MMA. I hate hockey fights, too. I see enough barbarism watching the news; I don't need to watch "sports" in which the entire idea is to beat the living crap out of the other guy -- or girl.

I know others really like it, and this isn't a value judgment on those of you who do.

I'm the same way.

Back in the day when Racine (where I live) had cable and Kenosha (where I grew up and where most of my friends were from) didn't, I always rented the big fights and invited my friends.

Now I don't care. I probably couldn't name the champion in any weight class. And I have never watched a single minute of MMA.

I always understood the "sport" in boxing. I don't see what sport is involved in MMA. It seems to me just a way for guys who would be out fighting in the street or in bars anyway, to collect a paycheck.

Personally, I loved the contact in sports. It's why I played football and it's why - at 6'2" - I wanted to play under the basket in hoops. I still like the physicality in sports - the hard contact - but I have no desire to see the fights anymore.

Would it make boxing safer if they put up a net?
