interesting-they have a former MU/buzz recruit-cody schwartz from west de pere

My guess is that Schwartz is why  this game got scheduled. This is the only trip SJSU is taking outside of the mountain west area.

we haven't played sjst since the 50's? so would they have scheduled this while recruiting him as a little carrot on a stick?

I heard from a friend whose daughter knows the kid of a dentist in Milwaukee who knows that San Jose State bought this game so Schwartz could play close to home á la Dean Smith.

Maybe not versus Marquette specifically but they probably said they would try to get a game back in Wisconsin. Not the first time this would have happened. Duke used to do it fairly regularly.
