Title: Madison Roll Call
Post by: real chili 83 on December 08, 2015, 09:36:59 AM
Going to the game this Saturday with Mrs. C.  We've tried Wando's for the past two MU games in Madison.  Good crowd, gets busy.  The multi-level deal is not overly conducive.  Not a bad place overall.

Any suggestions for other places?  Where is the unofficial Scoop gathering this year.

I am a no.

A couple years ago there was a fair number of MU fans at Dotty Dumpling's Dowry.  Also the Nitty Gritty is an old standby.

Dotty's has great food and is close.   Gritty has horrible food but a fun atmosphere, despite the Rodent fans.

Can't go wrong with the Brat House either

Hopefully the State Street Brat's pregame.

Yes, Dotty's food is outstanding and right down the block.

Would Dotty's have room for all of the Scoop faithful?  How big is it?

I doubt it.  And you are going to have to get there early and they are going to want you off the tables.  Gritty has a bigger bar area but it will be packed.

What's your recommendation?

If I were going to sit down with a few people, I would go to Dottys.  If you are trying to organize a Scoop get together around a bar, I would go Grittys.  But those are my go to places so others may have better ideas.

Thanks.

Gritty's is in the lead as the unofficial official Scoop pregame watering hole.

I was at Wandos 2 years ago as well and would vote to head there before the game. We can overtake the second floor. I may have 6-8 in my party. Sitting in 104!

Nitty Gritty is the old standby.  After spending all morning there then the afternoon at the Kohl Center, I generally feel the need to shower however.  Just a heads up

Don't have tickets right now, but hope to win some at the Blue and Gold Auction on Friday night.  The are raffling off 8 pairs.

I'm going with 3 other MU alums.  Marquette is having a reception pre game right by the Kohl Center.

https://muconnect.marquette.edu/events--reunions/event-registration-pages/2015-madison-mu-vs.-uw-pre-game-reception-12.12.15

For downtown bars, I'm partial to Cooper's Tavern on the square, but there a couple of new ones on Johnson/ State, if you are looking for somewhere less crowded (easy walk).

After the game, Dahmen's Pizza on the west side is the most Marquette friendly place in Madison.  Karben4 brewery on the east side is partially owned by an alum.

I live in Madison and I'm going with a friend from Chicago.  MU is hosting a pre-party at the Double Tree starting at 10:30 am but I think $15 for advanced tickets ($20 day of) is a bit steep for appetizers, soda and a cash bar.  At least give me a drink ticket or 2 if I have to spend $20!

My experience has been that everything is packed before the game so get there early.  Have had much better luck going after games since Badger fans all like sitting in traffic for some reason.

Nitty is average but fine for drinks and Dotty's supposed to have great food. I hope to hit them after the game.  State Street Brats is good but a bit of a walk.  However the Lake/Frances Street parking ramp over there is usually only $5 for event parking while everything else closer to the Kohl Hole is $15-20. Plus most of those spots are reserved for season ticket holders with parking passes.  Jordan's B1G Pub is decent and like everything else it will be packed.  It's closer to Camp Randall so it's a bit of a hike.  I will try to get to the Nitty beforehand if my friend isn't running late, which he usually is.

Coopers Tavern is a great place agree.  If you guys are looking for a great beer selection try there or Hopcat on Gorham st.

Been to Madison a couple times for football games. State stretch brats is always good. If you get there Friday night Madhatters has $5 pitchers of any domestic.

If you want to test the fortitude of your stomach, chasers has $4 rolling rock pitchers on Fridays as well.

Also, there's a good pizza place and a small coffee shop right by Camp Randall.

You can find some pretty cheap parking down Regent Street west of Park in the Bicycle Shops lots.  That also will take you past the Greenbush Bar, which has the best pizza in Madison and is usually where I stop after the game.

Wanted to go, but wasn't about to drive 4 hours for upper deck seats and wasn't about to pay $500 for a pair in the lower bowl.  The TV will do fine.

If you're looking to meet some *friendly* Madison gentlemen, ZFB has a few hot spots that he frequents

Going to the game with another recent alum in the 200 level. Both Gritty and Wando's are great, but it sounds like Wando's 2nd floor is the consensus so we will be there. See everyone Saturday
