Greska: Why is this loss different? At one point during the first half of Iowa's dismemberment of Marquette, my wife came back from putting our daughter to bed and saw the Hawkeye lead had ballooned to 23. Seeing the distraught look on my face, she turned to me and said "It's still not as bad as that Vanderbilt game." Phrases like these [...]

The cupcakes are proof the staff was expecting this. Well thought out.
Well-written article with solid thesis.
I especially liked this paragraph:
Landing Henry Ellenson might have been the best and worst thing to happen to Steve Wojciechowski as head coach of Marquette. The best because Henry is a legitimate lottery prospect who has the natural talent and physical gifts to be a transcendent player on this level, even as a freshman. The worst because it artificially accelerated the rebuilding timeline.
This addresses my biggest concern and why Vandy was different. When Vandy happened, bad as it was (and it was a trainwreck) we knew Buzz could coach, we knew we had proven, winning players, and we knew there would be better days.
Right now, we don't know if Wojo can coach, we don't have players that have shown they can win, and we are just hoping there will be better days. Totally different feeling right now.

Being the Washingtonian that I am, Wojo reminds me of Romar. Romar used to get fantastic recruiting classes but his inability to coach himself out of a paper bag has seen talented in state recruits more often then not picking a school other than the Huskies.

He still managed to overcome us being up 18 with five minutes left in the game en route to a sweet 16. If Wojo does that I'll be happy.

That team was overlooked by much of the media and most Marquette fans. We should have won that game but unlike the Louisville loss I feel that the comeback had more to do with the Huskies making plays and less to do with us choking.
My bigger point was that Romo should have done much more with the likes of Robinson, Roy, Brockman, Hawes, Thomas, Ross and Pondexter and thus has struggled to bring in the same caliber of recruits.

I mean we had an obscene amount of turnovers in the last like 10 minutes if I remember correctly. I was only a freshman so I can't remember if those were forced or if we F'd up. I get your overall point but I mean if we can snag a sweet 16 out of wojo and he bolts or whatever I'll be happy because like you I don't think he's able to sustain it like Crean and Buzz were.
Going with the not getting the most of your talent theme...
I think it was in one of Velasquez's season preview pieces where he stated that Wojo is one of 3 active coaches who pulled in a top 10 recruiting class their first try without any prior HC experience. The others were Pastner at Memphis and Dave Rice at UNLV.
Not the best omen.

I think you're thinking of a regular-season game against Lville. I don't think MU was up 18 with 5 min left in the Washington game.

You're right I was. We were up 15 with 12 to go against Washington. Still quite the come back
