Curious what people think about the minutes distribution tonight.
H Ellenson 36
Fischer 30
JJJ 29
Sandy 28
Duane 27
Haanif 26
Traci 14
Anim 10
I only heard the game on the radio, but am a surprised by:
--no Wally
--low minutes by Anim, and high minutes by Fischer and Henry
--both Sandy and Haanif at basically same as Duane
--low minutes by Traci
--doesn't seem like foul trouble was a factor for anyone
No judgment here, just observations and curiosity about others' thoughts.
Would have liked to see more of Sacar. We played well when he was on the court. Otherwise, no major gripes about minute distribution.
The 0 minutes for Wally and Heldt were surprising. I figured they'd be in the rotation.
I thought MU played better when they weren't using the twin towers. One big and 4 quicks turned the momentum.
The team played best with Anim on the floor. Seemed like he was out there a lot toward the end and I'd bet he played his way into more minutes in the future. Carter played the amount he should have--he's good but his being a freshman is sometimes obvious.
Surprised Heldt didn't see any time but I'm sure wojo has his reasons. Wally, not so surprised.
As a side note, which may not be apparent from only listening to the game, we've got LOADS of talent on this team. Tough loss but gonna be a fun year.
Wally not playing surprised me more than Heldt not playing. Belmont was not big and spread the floor with shooters. Henry and Luke struggled to defend on the perimeter and on the high pick and rolls. I cannot imagine that Heldt would have been better.

I agree with this. He hustled and played tough.

Fischer averaged 29.3 minutes last season. Henry's the most physically gifted player on the team. I don't know why their minutes surprise you.
Good distribution, would prefer more of Duane and less Carter.
I would have rather seen more Carter and less Cheatham. I think Carter is a better defender and handles the break better.
- While both Carter and Cheatham looked like freshmen out there, Carter looked like a freshman point guard. He should be starting, Cheatham should back him up. Better defender, better distributor. Yes, there was the late mistake, but that's part of being a freshman.
- I think Henry and Luke will both be around 30 minutes this year. Belmont was able to take advantage of them with back door cuts constantly and had a really good game plan for reducing their efficacy. Even still, they snagged a combined 11 offensive boards. If they can turn those into more points in the future, they'll be fine. Need to learn how to play together.
- Anim needs to play more. The kid is one of those guys who just makes the right plays at the right times.
- Duane had an off night. I have a feeling he will be in the 30 mpg range for most of the season, but limiting him when he was that cold from 3 made sense.
Playing a slower Heldt where he who have had to defend a shooter on the perimeter while Luke was not in foul trouble was not necessary and therefore not utilized.
I suspect Heldt will get limited minutes when Luke gets in foul trouble or a defensive post presence is needed. Amin seems to be the first option off the bench at the four.
