Title: Recruiting Bigs
Post by: muarmy81 on December 09, 2007, 05:12:37 AM
People rail crean for not recruiting bigs (amongst other things) but I feel much better recruiting athletic wings/guards than getting BTWG (Big Tall White Guys)  Watching our team this year against UW and last year against Duke makes me feel much better than when I was in School and we were usually the Unathletic team on the floor.  While we need height I'll always be happy with speed and quickness.

Just check out the journal sentinal Badger board.  They're all up in arms over the slow bigs they've got on their team.

There's no question I would take a class of James, Mcneal and Matthews over one like Butch, Stiemsma and Krabbenhoft every single year.

Slow it down grind it out basketball makes me want to vomit.

I would take a TLSG (tall lanky Senegalese guy) over a BTWG anyday, I just love how he beats his man down the floor every time and he's always in good position in the slot for dump offs.  Good performance by barro yesterday, especially the dunk, didn't even know he could dunk off two feet.

I think i've posted this before, but i think the reason the quality of our guards out strips the big men we recruit is pretty simple.
Wade and Deiner.  I would say even more so TD.  If you are a small guy in hs and see a short slow white kid who made it under crean, you have to think that he can do the same for you.  We'll need to find a diamond in the rough that crean can get into the nba to convicne the higher ranked  bigs that MU is a good fit for them...
at least that makes sense to me.  But then again I talked myself into thinking hatton had a good shot so what do i know.
