Title: [Paint Touches] In the land of giants

In the land of giants

Years ago, when the world was smaller, NBA shooting guard Lazar Hayward was a center. Yeah, all 6-foot-6 of him. Those weren’t exactly the Dark Ages of Marquette basketball â€" the 2009-2010 team went 22-12 in a loaded Big East and was a 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament, after all â€" but they were, [...]

If Mbao is still playing, he must be on the Otule Plan.

Barkley was a 6'4" PF, so Lazar at Center at 6'5" makes sense.

Fun teams to watch for sure, might be better than what we have now.  Exciting, some really good college players, not much in the classroom or on the streets.  Buzz did
what he had to do to win.  The administration closed there eyes for a few years, I think they are open again and Wojo is recruiting a different type of athlete.  If it is going to be successful, time will tell.  I will say if Henry stays a second year, everybody back, they should be as good as anybody in the country.  Willis would be the type
of athlete they are missing upfront, but if they got him, with Hauser and Rowsey they will be talented.  Those 2 can shot the ball.  Not sure about Cohen or JJJ yet, looking for consistency.

That was a great season.  Who would of guess a team of Coobey, Acker, Lazar, Bulter, Fulce would of turned it around. They lost a bunch of close ones at the beginning of the season, only to toughen them up and win the close ones at the end of the season.

Mbao is not still playing.

13-14 was his last year.

He was arrested back in May for "wanton endangerment" back in West Virginia.

What the article seems to imply is that, assuming that the Fischer-Ellenson combo up front plays head and shoulders above opponents' front lines (pun intended) as expected, the make or break factor for this team is guard play. Not that that's a big surprise to many, but if Duane and/or JjJ and/or Sandy become truly consistent outside threats (or if at least one of them is 'on' each game), and Traci reliably protects and distributes the ball, then this team may end up very near the top of the BEast.

For me the issue will be consistency, and with such a young team, one can't assume consistency. Oh, and defense too.

I'm hopeful and optimistic, but realistic in my expectations.

What could have been...

2013-14 (SENIOR):Played in 22 of 33 games ... Made 1 start on the year on senior night ... In his final season at Marshall, the senior center finished the year averaging 0.6 points per game and 1.5 rebounds per game ... On Dec. 17 versus Alice Lloyd he recorded a career high in rebounds with 14 ... Statistically, led the team with the highest field goal percentage at 77.8 percent.

14 rebounds against Alice Lloyd?  Is that a school or a player?

I loved his jumping jack defense. There was nothing funnier than watching a 7'2" skinny guy jumping up and down while waving his arms at the top of the key.

I was at the Kohl Center where I believe Buzz debuted that one.  I thought "WTF is this?"
