Title: IUPUI & Utah Valley State helped us more than we know
Post by: LikeMike84 on December 08, 2007, 11:06:44 PM
I have heard it for the past month or so when debating who was a better team, MU or UW: "Well Marquette struggled against crap teams while UW started the season with blow out wins."  Although most of us will argue whether or not IUPUI and UV State are actually "crap" teams, we cannot debate that these first two games taught us how to win down the stretch.

We went into one of the most difficult places to play tonight (I mean Bo's 97-6 record speaks loudly) and won (obviously).  And I do not believe we could have done it without these 1st two painfully close games.

What do you guys think?

At the end of the year you'll find out that IUPUI & Utah Valley are 2 pretty good teams, and will be quality wins.

Hmm .. not so sure about Utah Valley.. they are currently 3-6 on the year .. Pomeroy has them at 17-11 for the year .. but .. their schedule is all 200-300+ RPI flotsam and jetsam.   They are currently 193 rpi, and even if they went even for the year, They'll probably end up a 200 rpi team.

IUPUI  has a much better chance of being a decent team this year .. pomeroy has them at 25-5, current rpi =122 .. they could hang around that region.

My prediction:  IUPUI is going to be this year's version of the team that nobody wants to face in the tournament.  They'll be a 13 or 14 seed, but deserve far higher, and be mad as hell about their first round opponent.

Does anybody know if the selection committee guidelines try to avoid pairing teams that met during the year in the first round?  I'd rather not see this team again.

hopefully it's not us they face.. don't need that anger plus the additional motivation for revenge ;)
