Title: Chicago suggestions
Post by: Celtic Truth on October 17, 2015, 03:48:44 PM
I'm meeting my parents and brother in Cicago this weekend. I've been to Chicago a couple of times already and was wondering if any of u guys have any suggestions of things to do and of course places to eat. We're staying in River north.
We plan on doing an architecture tour and a Frank Lloyd Wright tour. There's a lot of options for these types of tours, any recommendations for a particular one?
Most importantly where is the best deep dish? I've been to Gino's East and Uno's. I've heard good things about Giordano's but most ppl say Lou Malnati's is the best. Any other non pizza restaurants to try?
We also want to go out to a blues club and possibly a comedy club too. I've been to Kingston mines in Lincoln park and it was pretty good so we might go back there again. How about comedy clubs though? Is second city worth going to, or are other places better? Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Pizza - Pequod's is the best for the thicker crust even though it's right up by DuhPaul.
I'm a fan of Publican for food in the Fulton Market Area.
Or go to Au Cheval for a great burger - though their fried bologna is awesome.

As far as deep dish I prefer Lou's  As Chili mentioned, Pequod's is also very good.

Chicago Cut is a good steakhouse.  Gibsons, Kinzie Chop House, Mastro's, David Burke, Bavetti's.  Tons of options.  Pricey though.

If you want a great burger Kuma's Corner (the one on Belmont) is tasty.

Second City is a safe bet but probably depends on the current cast and show.

Comedy sportz on belmont is pretty great. It's not always the comedy sportz guys which is why I like it. If the Stevens Family is there absolutely go see them.

This weekend is Open House Chicago, you can visit many buildings not normally open to the public  These include hotels, private clubs, architecture and design firms, churches, apartment buildings.  You will see signs all over downtown outside buildings that are open.  It's a really great event, 200 places all over the city.  Check the website, I think it's http://www.openhousechicago.org or check the Chicago Architecture Foundation on Michigan Avenue if you don't see one of the signs.
