Oliver Purnell, the former DePaul University men's basketball coach, on Tuesday sold his 12-room, 7,300-square-foot brick and stone mansion in Lincoln Park for $2.575 million.
Purnell, 62, coached DePaul from 2010 until earlier this year, when he resigned after five seasons, going 54-105 and failing to reach the NCAA tournament in any of those seasons.
Purnell purchased the mansion for $3.075 million in 2010. Built in 2008, the extra-wide, five-bedroom house has five baths, five custom fireplaces, handcrafted woodwork, Marvin windows, coffered and barreled ceilings, a grand staircase, custom doors, radiant heated floors, a wine cellar with a tasting table, an elevator, a library with a wet bar, and a custom kitchen with an AGA stove. Outdoor features include a rooftop deck and hot tub, plus a breezeway to a three-car garage.
Purnell first listed the mansion in April for $3.2 million. It most recently had been available for $2.995 million.

I thought upscale places in Lincoln Park were going up.
I will never understand sinking money into that type of house if you aren't planning on making it a semi-permanent location.
Looks like he was living in a law office...
Not sure why he sold it.
There is a good chance that he will be coaching at DePaul again.

I chuckled!
As for taking a loss on the house sale, hey, we've all been there. The last mansion I bought for $10 million I could only get $9.3 million for it. I was so depressed I jumped on my yacht and took off for my winter home on St. Kitts!

Agree...and if you take the DePaul job, you shouldn't be planning on it being semi-permanent.

They are ... it appears his real estate acumen is about as good as his basketball acumen.
wonder if he paid asking price for it, possible that he just bought without any negotiating.

With all of the talent in Chicago, the guy couldn't even recruit a decent real estate agent.

OK, you got me ... it was the servants' quarters.
