The start of the 2nd paragraph makes me frown a little.......
-
They were great players at MU. They have not set the NBA on fire. Nothing inaccurate or unfair there.
-
This cheered me up again though....

I always chuckle at the "guys named..." type comments. I mean, couldn't any names be substituted in there had they not panned out? Couldn't Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Love, or Kevon Looney be just as apt for such comments as Dwight Buycks or Vander Blue?
-
Either a) the LAT didn't connect the dots between Vander and Dwight or b) they did and found that connection to be irrelevant.
Take solace in the fact that (b) is about 100x more likely than (a).

At least they didn't mention former Lakers greats DJO, Downing, Smith and Lee, too.

Here's the author's bio:
Mike Bresnahan covers the Lakers for the Los Angeles Times. He started the beat in 2004, a month after Shaquille O’Neal was traded, and covered several seasons of mediocrity before the Lakers won back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010. Now they’re back to mediocrity. Bresnahan is from Los Angeles, has been with The Times since graduating the University of Wisconsin in 1994, and has also covered the L.A. Kings, pro beach volleyball and numerous colleges and high schools.
Pretty much explains why those two were selected

Good for Jae. Nailed it.

I don't even know if I'd call dwight "great at MU"

Fair point. Career averages of 7.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.8 apg is pretty pedestrian. Granted he was only here two years, but him making the NBA is Greg Stiemsma levels of incredible.

But that's the point. Buycks and Vander haven't done anything at all yet they got time on the Lakers, while Dirk and Love have proven themselves. We'll see about Looney.

More pointing out that the way it's written indicates the name is somehow the problem. Their accomplishments (or lack thereof) would seem like more of a concern than what their parents had scribbled on the birth certificate.

graduating the University of Wisconsin in 1994
Well, there it is. Screw Bresnahan.

Well, there is a first time for everything. I wouldn't want to be the gal volunteered, though.
I'd like to retaliate, but the Lakers seem to shy away from Wisconsin grads. 8 starts for Wes' dad over two years in the late eighties is it.

Well, we'll always have this

Why's the dude hating on Dwight? Dude was balling before he broke a bone.

Dude.

Can anyone think of another former MU player more unlikely to play in the NBA than Dwight who actually did? Cause I cant.

Allie McGuire?

Depends on your reference point. I'd say Jimmy Butler was less of an NBA prospect than Dwight the first time he arrived on campus. At graduation, not so much.

Chris Crawford was kind of a surprise. Even more so that he stuck in the league to some extent for 8 seasons.

Tom Copa.
The wonder from Coon Rapids.

Good call.
I was kinda surprised he even made an NBA roster. Then to last twice as long in the league as Butch Lee, Earl Tatum or Bo Ellis did ... wow!
