I believe (but am not certain) that the game time has been moved to 12 noon CDT.

Same starting five. MU up 29-24 at end of 1st quarter.

Generally decent showing. MU working to get the ball in the lane. Luke has been active. On defense, the rotations look ok, but SB Mass has hit a number of 3s.

I'm all in on The Engine, but really don't care for the Inspector seemed more contrived.  Oh well, just know Bilde has to do some of our games this season and/or announce at Marquette Madness.

Sandy has looked great so far. Been very aggressive attacking the basket and active on defense.

This is a perfect last game -- they are stronger and faster than the last teams.  I think the Freshman will get a taste of how much harder they need to work before the season starts.

When this team takes care of the ball and runs the floor they look absolutely amazing... but unfortunately they don't do that all the time haha
Title: Re: SB Massagno Game Thread
Post by: mug644 on August 19, 2015, 12:37:41 PM
HE hasn't done much (must be reaching that freshman wall), but is still attracting a lot of attention, which helps open the floor for everyone else.

Sandy is playing very well on both ends.

One thing that's gone relatively unmentioned is Cohen's rebounding. After Luke, he's probably been the 2nd best rebounder on the team. Constantly crashing the glass. Really great to see.

Has anyone else noticed that after halftime of every game Luke comes out with a different number on? I know they are just practice jerseys and these are basically scrimmages, but it is still kind of weird.

They mentioned in one of the prior broadcasts that Fischer is sweating a ton with no air conditioning in the gyms. So he switches jerseys to avoid getting even more condensation on the floor if he falls.

MU up 89-52 will 3:44 left in the 3rd quarter. Totally running on them now.

On pace for something like 130 points in the game!

Just during the 10 day stretch? I'd probably go with Heldt, but he had the lowest expectations going in. Over the past year? Cohen.

JJJ easily. Defense still needs some work, but his jumper has been much improved and he is extremely confident on the offensive end today.

JJJ has bought in. That's more important for me. I think the team has done a really good job on establishing roles and, more importantly, making players realize them.

I left Cohen out because he started playing this series well.
JJJ was just off, and Heldt seemed like he'd need at least a year to be productive at even this level.
JJJ's got his mojo back, and Heldt's been making some nice plays lately.

One thing for me is that these games haven't clarified the rotation much. It feels like the starting five are set, but there hasn't been any real separation between numbers 6-9. If anything, guys (especially JJJ and Heldt) have presented themselves well, demonstrating that they deserve a regular role. And that's without Cheatham playing.

That's all good.

I think what I like most about this team is that we have the potential to legitimately go 9-10 deep. We all know Wojo wants to run and it looks like we may finally have the horses to do just that. Plus our team looks incredibly conditioned and in shape. We will run a lot of teams out of gas.

I keep forgetting that we don't have Cheatham playing yet. Another weapon.

The only thing that I'm wary of with this team is our toughest games (minus UW) are right at the start of the season, and with the rest of the non con schedule being poor it's imperative for us to get off to a good start.

Somewhere in between is usually the answer.  I like what I'm seeing from our team.  However, seeing some of the passing and mistakes that Sam Buckets is making - they seem like they kind of suck despite what the announcers are saying.

I think they're much better than the Italian team. We're just finding our groove. On a side note, I would have loved to see us play Jake Thomas. Too bad he's not on the squad anymore.

They had some skill, but MU's fitness level wore them down. The energy they had at the end of a long trip was really impressive.

Can easily see the improvement in the returning guys, and the freshmen all seem fine with playing their roles. We haven't seen Cheatham yet, and he can really play. If this is the starting point for the season, I think we'll have some fun this year.

Agree.  Massagno actually appeared to be a somewhat talented team.  Just zero practice time before this game and they're not yet in good basketball condition meaning that by halftime they were already totally out of gas.  Bottom line, we're playing significantly better than a week ago.  It's been a highly productive trip.

I'll say this.  We'd kick the crap out of Omaha this year.  Does that mean we'll consistently beat Top 40 teams?  Time will tell.  We'll know more after facing a tough Belmont.  But no doubt we accomplished our goals this past week.  And we've got The Engine!

That's the way my dad likes his Harvey Wallbangers.

Just got done watching today's game. Lots of positives, but what I liked the most was Jajuan's midrange pull up jumpers. After a rough first outing offensively he looked much better the past few games.

Beyond that, Traci and Luke were great, turnovers were down, really a complete team performance. Liked how we were able to dominate early with Henry less of a factor. All in all a good tour and has me excited for Madness and then some real action.
