For how poorly we did last year, I'm happy with 22nd. Add Henry and the crew this year, should rise!
-
Only reason we were out of the top 20 was because of the game at the Al.
-
These are tickets sales and not actual butts in seats, yes?

Big East outdrew the PAC-12, good for 5th best conference in country. AAC was 8th in the country. Ouch.
-
One of the reasons the Big 10 is first is because most of the schools have larger arenas, Villanova averaged almost 4,000 less fans than MU, but has sold out 158 straight games. I do not think MU had a sellout last year.

Along the same lines, the BE with a 9,853 average is closer to the number 2 ACC (11,368) than to the number 6 P12 (7,426). Not bad.

That stink is on that sonuvabitch Bert!

We might have sold out the UW game but I would have to check that. It seems like we usually come close on national Marquette day as well.
It is kind of unfortunate that Nova and St. John's have such small on campus arenas. They could probably both sell out something in the 10,000 range fairly regularly. Nova might even be able to do something more along the lines of a 12,000 seat on campus arena. The unfortunate thing about Nova is that they are in a nice neighborhood and the local government is very concerned about traffic to their games so they won't let them build anything with a bigger footprint than what they have now. I'm not sure if St. John's has a similar problem with their neighborhood.
-
I'd like to see a ratio of attendance vs capacity as well. That would be interesting to see who would come out on top then. AKA duke

Not necessarily. http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=47747.0

Perhaps the BEast should encourage Nove and St. Johns to play more of their games off-campus in larger arenas to get the conference average up.
Or boot DePaul. Or both.

I suspect that the UW game was the highest attendance game and there were plenty of nose bleed seats available. Not only was the attendance low last season, but a lot of season ticket holders were selling their tickets. I sit in the lower bowl and I was surrounded by people wearing Hegner shirts at the Creighton game. The four seats next to me never had the same people in them all year.

But Depaul has a cool arena being built that I'm looking forward to MU occupying once a year.

Turns out DIBS (demon in a blue suit) was not indiscriminately pointing at people during timeouts but rather taking attendance and reporting it to the power that be immediately after.

I think there are a number of schools that are at 100% capacity. Duke is lucky in that regard because they have a smaller arena, but they couldn't fill an arena twice that size like the Dean Dome.

I don't think so. It's pretty cool to be able to play on campus in front of a sellout crowd and those teams tend to be tougher in their smaller venues. SJU played most of its games at MSG anyway and sometimes barely drew more than they did at Carnesecca. They also got a nice bump from hosting Coach K's 1,000th win. I'd rather see Marquette play a few more games at the Al each year even if it means we slide a few notches down the attendance list.

It will never happen. They have far more season ticketholders than there are seats at the Al.
Also, $$$$$.

Also, it was an interesting novelty but it really didn't sell well and I thought generally the atmosphere was significantly down compared to a BC game

not bad for a mid major conference

It is their fault it did not sell well. They limited you to two seats, even if you had four season tickets. Trying to make it so tickets were available to everyone turned out to be a stupid idea.
-
As crappy as Creighton was, they still packed their place.
Good addition to the league, IMHO. Just a solid program with a very loyal fan base.

Correct. A mistake likely not repeated. MU erroneously believed it would be a super hot seller. Won't see it again soon for the reason chick cited. Had to be excluded from the season ticket package.

as i was ready to say that one of the reasons creighton has such a loyal b-ball fan base is b/c like us, there is no fall football.....BUT, i looked it up and guess what? sorry if this has been discussed, they are beginning a div 1 team this fall 2015 to be played as independents. in 2016 they are joining the big 12 for football only...but did not pinky swear as they intend on staying in the BEast for basketball. how long will this last? i mean staying in BEast assuming their football team becomes successful.
brings up another question-monday morning qb'ing admitted-i always said that MU should have initiated something like this about 10 years ago, but the answer was always the same...$$$$. well, if reighton is taking a crack at it-wtf?? yes i know this is a link to 2014 article, but them's is the perks of subscriptions to the prison newspapers ;D

Not only is it an article from 2014, it's an article published on April 1.

This comment had a very narrow audience, luckily it was found.

We got a waiver for that game so it wasn't actually included in our attendance numbers.

Incorrect. We were told it wouldn't be included in our attendance numbers. Not surprisingly, that supposed waiver from the NCAA was nonexistent and they did include that game in our total attendance numbers.

holy schmit-was i had!! sorry! i googled creighton football and didn't think twice...obviously. it wasn't the onion so...

That is GREAT news. If we end up establishing there are 5 big football conferences, and in basketball the big East makes it 6 then we have succeeded.
This helps - tv ratings and no good showings in sweet 16s hurt.
Ultimately I would try everything we could to get UConn back. Hah football is going to come back with a vengeance and new stadium after Alabama trustees failed to kill them and they are a better fit for the aac. UConn football can't be worth staying in the aac long-term, and big East needs a team that has been a regular national Champ.
