Marquette basketball is taking the whole family thing to a new level. Get deiner's nephew next?

Question: if we did recruit Diener's nephew what, if any, restrictions would Travis be under? (Not necessarily directed at you Boxer, just made me think of it).

I asked this somewhere a long time ago regarding wades son. I think the NCAA gives special exceptions though with Travis being a coach one has to wonder where the line is.

If I'm not mistaken, in his current position (not officially a coach) Travis isn't allowed to recruit anyone.
That said, if he were a coach, I would think he'd have to abide by the same rules as any other coach, nothing more. Plenty of recruits have gone on to play for their dads (Bryce Drew, Ray McCallum Jr., Bryce Alford ... heck, Allie McGuire), so it's not an uncommon situation.

Don't think that's right. There must be special exceptions when there is a relationship that pre-dates basketball recruitment. I don't think Greg McDermott was prohibited from texting his son when Doug was in high school.

I wonder what contact Greg McDermott could have with Harrison Barnes. Was Harrison not allowed over for pizza?
Wisconsin offered Joey last night & reportedly J.Hauser told 247 that Bo Ryan told him he wants to coach him. Interesting.

Will Bo be a coach at the Milwaukee Summer Pro Am?
Or is Bo taking the step up to high school AAU ball?

Bo would have to be an assistant for a lot longer than one year in order to coach Joey. There must of been some miscommunication there.

Can't wait to see how Badger fans spin Bo "changing his mind" on retiring as some sort of altruistic and morally superior situation.

Some of them are pretty POed that his supposed waffling is screwing up recruiting. He's trying to name his successor and that's just not going to happen.

People change their minds all the time. Big deal.
Doesn't affect MU at all.
If a potential MU leaning recruit changes his mind about MU due to the fact that a retiring coach decides to come back......that affects MU directly. Hypothetically of course.

AFAIC, the cat's out of the bag in Madison. Any coach/handler with an IQ greater than a manatee knows why Bo "rescinded" his retirement announcement (or is at least skeptical about it), and so Bp's "return" is exponentially more likely to work against UW than it would ever against MU.

No shot any handler in 2015 has an IQ greater than a manatee.

It didn't work against UW when it came to Kobe King.

Mods, I hereby request an emoji that will more adequately convey socio-political outrage. Thanks.

Right. An instate kid like King was probably a Badger fan growing up and feels a connection to the school regardless of who's coaching. That's understandable.
The coaching situation makes recruiting a much tougher sell for those who don't already have that lifelong attachment to the Badgers, as we've seen with their recent misses.

No. Three badger recruits who took their talents elsewhere after bos announcement. Probably a connection
This argument is going sideways.
So, if Joey decides to go to UW it was because he was a Wisky kid and badger fan his whole life..............if he doesn't go there it was because of the retirement uncertainty of Bo.

Or he chooses a school for a third completely unrelated reason.
